Failure to reach a solution in talks with Auckland Airport is delaying the launch of Virgin Airline's cut-price New Zealand domestic airline.

Pacific Blue,Virgin's locally based trans-Tasman operation which was launched in February, has confirmed it is planning to fly domestic routes by December.

Virgin spokesman David Huttner says there has been a lack of progress in discussions on counter space at Auckland Airport.

He says the company is remaining optimistic it will be flying domestically by the end of the year.

And that will mean war on national routes.

But Mr Huttner says until the discussions with the airport are concluded, no decision on a start date can be reached.

I wonder if there's a political slant here, AKL being the core business centre of the state run Airline.
