Saudi Arabia aside, I am wondering whether there are any female professional pilots in the GCC (Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE or Oman) in the airline/corporate world?

First two women pilots sign for Gulf Air

Woman Pilots (http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/arc_Articles.asp?Article=76021&Sn=BNEW&IssueID=26353)

Wonder how long it will be before some Bahrain MP raises an objection by claiming that it is unIslamic

At Qatar Airways we have actually two female pilots. One french girl on the A300 and one Greek/belgian on the 320.

We had three but the other one was fired not too long ago...

MEA has had a female pilot for over 10 years now i think. She's right seat on the 321 and 330 i believe. I read of a female pilot in EgyptAir as well, on the 320... Syrian also has a female co-pilot on the right seat of a 727.

nothing wrong with lady pilots,i fly with them on a weekly bases and most of them do the job better than us men i would say 90% better, but the arab world is a different kettle of fish that is the way the public look at them, eventhough we still have that amount of public ( old school ) in europe who still dont like them but in the cabin................

Any women fly for EK?

Can't think of a name

Dear Luke,

No there aren't any female pilots in EK at present , and I don't believe there will be for some time yet. We did ALMOST have 1 or 2 a couple of years back though.

Recruitment management at the time lobbied very hard, and very effectively, that EK should hire female expat pilots (very few local ladies pursue the piloting profession). The powers that be decided to give it a try, so applications were taken, interviews were given, and in one case an official job offer was made. However....... when the contract went "upstairs" for final signature/approval they baulked.

The whole thing was very sad; senior management wanted to be "seen" to be an equal employer, but never believed a woman would actually get through the recruitment process. When one (or two) actually did pass they panicked, backpedaled, and withdrew the offer.

Whilst its not the GCC, Yemeni Airlines has a female pilot. A few years ago she was on 7 2's and became a heroin when she foiled a hijack attempt....just a bit of trivia.
