View Full Version : Lunar Lander?

Has anyone here seen the Discovery channel program claiming that Man never landed on the moon?. .Alledgedly it was all faked by the US to get ahead of the Russians in the arms and space race filmed on a set in the Nevada desert. Good old area 51 no less.. .I was drinking with friends in the US when I saw it so alot of the details are a little fuzzy.. .Several things stand out im my mind though which apparently disprove the landings.. .. .Pictures taken, show the US flag'flying' in the breeze. There is no wind on the moon.. .. .The camera supplied on the lunar landing was very clumsey to use. The gloves worn would have made opperation virtualy impossible.. .. .Despite the difficulties of camera opperation published photos are not only perfectly in focus but show the subject totaly central in the picture. (Just look at some of my photos taken in perfect conditions and you will find that one believable).. .. .The 'space suits' made of a thin aluminium/aluminum used when walking on the moon would have offered little protection from the radiation that exists out there.. .. .There were many more alledged discrecpancies but unfortunately I didn't note them down.. .. .I must say that the program was rather convincing but of course that was the whole point of it. . .. .The thing that realy convinced me was the NASA spokesmans response. 'Anyone who believes these allegations must be a fool' thats all he could say to every allegation. Well ok perhaps that wasn't the exact wording but you get the idea.. .. .I'd be very interested to hear other opinions.

Another of those idiotic conspiracy theories, totally ignorant of facts.... .. .You'd probably get a better response if you posted this on the Chemtrails site.

That bloodey fake lunar-landing thing has been done to death for the past 10 years. Im still waiting for some attention-seeking d!ckhead to disprove the Mars rover.. .. .On another note I hear the beleagered Flat Earth Society lost another 10 members last year bringing its total down to 63 world-wide.

Sorry, I'm Not - I don't have much time for the sort of trash conspiracy theories that seem so popular across the pond, particularly not when all it takes is just a smattering of intelligence completely to debunk such crap.. .. .Nothing personal! Mind you, I'm surprised at Discovery Channel screening such nonsense. When do they show their special on the statue of Elvis that was found on Mars?

Hey, I may not be that clever but I never fell for the Lancaster bomber on the moon story in the Daily Sport. Infact if I remember rightly I was a paper boy at the time and it only came out on Wednesdays and Sundays so scrap the daily bit

I wonder what it is that has spawned the multiplicity of conspiracy theories in recent times.. .. .An a/c didn't hit the Pentagon: . .A 747 brought down by a missile.. .The US did not land a man on the moon.. .Loonies living in the backblocks worried about black helicopters belonging to a UN world government.. .More alien abductions than one could shake a stick at.. .Alien spaceships and their occupants being held in area 51.. .. .The list goes on and on, why ?

Well, I can understand how the Area 51 stories could get out like that. Given the nature of the work being done there I'm sure the USAF started a few of the UFO rumours themselves, as a cover for the development work (stealth bomber et al). They only started trying to debunk it when the rumours drew more attention to the facility than anybody would have wanted or anticipated.

Hey!! I escaped from an alien spacecraft. they haven't figured out where I am hiding so don't you all go and tell them will you?. .. .I am safe here on JB aren't I? You wouldn't give me up would you?. .. .Now where did I leave my medication? . .. .Skulks away wrapping himself in tinfoil to deflect the ion beams and fool them all!!!. .. .Edited for phat phingas again.. .. . . . . . [ 18 March 2002, 04:00: Message edited by: Travelling Toolbox ]

I agree IN, I saw a similar program on Bravo. I must admit it certainly made food for thought. Like you I am a newcomer to Pprune, so I haven't had the privilage of our learned friends' opinion.. .. .I also would like to hear the defence against the very convincing evidence given in the said program.

It's not that hard to explain, Granny Clanger had too much soup that day. She can be a windy old dear at times.... Blue string pudding protects us against radiation, didn't you know?? . .. .(scurries away muttering, "Major Clanger told us no good would come of helping those nice men...."). .. .SOUP!

It's the lump of moon rock, like the one I saw in the Earth Gallery in London yesterday, which always b*ggers up my conspiracy theory...

The one about the flag is that it is permantly like that. I think it has a steel rod holding it out like that from the top

I have my own theory about the popularity of Conspiracy Theories. Without being too political and breaching Danny's Law, I have to say that we live in an age when Official Organisations, Governments, etc have been shown to be total liars on many key subjects, glibbly pushing a Party or Official Line to their electoral advantage, even when it is obvious that the majority of people reject this "Holy Writ". An example of this being the stance of the Politico-Medical Establishment in the UK on the MMR versus separate injections for children issue.. .We have a Prime Minister who has perfected spin, equivocation, and duplicity into an art form, and In fairness I have to say his predecessors over the last 35 years or so have been little better. . .. .Since people no longer trust the utterances of the Establishment they will take comfort from the various Conspiracy Theories which abound. As an example I have spoken to very well educated people of standing, one a JP, who fervently believe that the British Secret Services, (they never specify which), set up the accident which killed Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed in Paris as the Royal Family would never contenance the marriage of the former wife of the Heir to the Throne to such a person. Poppycock indeed, but I can see why some people would chose to believe it, and not merely the Sun reading proles either.. .. .I can rememeber the film "Capricorn One" was it, which had Gregory Peck and O.T.Simpson as stars where the whole plot devolves upon a NASA space shot being faked in a studio and the three astronauts refusing to go along with the fraud. Perhaps this is what fuels the "Moon Landings never really happened" theories?. .. .On that matter I prefer the famous "Good luck Mr Gorsky" remark said to have been uttered by Neil Armstrong on the Moon. Was it true or is this another Urban (Lunar) Myth?

And the flag did not flutter in any of the shots I've seen. Do the conpiracy theorists real think that the conspirators are clever enough to fake the moon shot and convince everybody and keep it secret for 33 years, yet stupid enough to make such simple errors?. .. .And the camera shots are not that good and most are from remote-controlled cameras attached to the lander or to the rover vehicle, so the gloves make no difference.. .. .Oh, and finally if it ws done in a studio why did Neil Armstrong get his lines wrong? ("One small step for man ..." should have been "On small step for A man ..." or it makes no sense) Surely they could have rerecorded them.. . . . [ 18 March 2002, 11:52: Message edited by: Send Clowns ]

One little detail I would like to add... You can actually SEE the landing site with a telescope.... .. .Oh, wait, this is a new one: The government has wrapped a thin cloth around earth to cover all this up! . .. .I'd simply LOVE to start a poll about this question... . . . . [ 18 March 2002, 11:53: Message edited by: RadarContact ]

Argued this add nauseam with a silly bugga on another site, it a bit like the face on Mars thing, that NASA are supposed to be covering up.. .If NASA thought there was a alien artifact like that face on mars they would be screaming it from the roof tops, their budget would go up tenfold overnight. . . . . [ 18 March 2002, 12:11: Message edited by: tony draper ]

theres a website out there that takes each point and goes through the argument step by step, and proves them all to be flase. Written by a professor of Astrophysics (not working for NASA, though presumably if hes debunking it, he is). Search using MSN, it usually comes up.. .. .As for My opinions, well the logic of these people seems to be "If you dont believe us, then they've gotten to you" doesnt matter if you dont personally believe them, your "one of them". Still, each to their own, their not bothering anyone. . .. .I personally take an interest in the UFO phenomenon, Paranormal etc, but i am a dedicated sceptic.

pax anglia, glad you raised that point. .. .It is a documented fact that tens of thousands of people go missing every year.. .Gone, vanished, never to be seen again.. .. .What happened to all these people I hear you ask,. .The answer is so simple most never think of it, they have fallen off the edge of the world.. .. .The above is cribbed from an hilarious sketch in which Peter Sellers is being interviewed as the president of the flat earth society.. .. .Eventually he is dragged away from the mic screaming and cursing all things round, footballs, light bulbs, tennis balls, etc etc.. . . . [ 18 March 2002, 21:46: Message edited by: henry crun ]
