In the 1990’s Cathay had a fleet investment program with firm orders and options on aircraft totaling US$9,000 million on 60 new aircraft. What Aircraft were these? How many of the Aircraft that were ordered and optioned were delivered?

In mid 2003, CX had 80 aircraft (69 pax and 11 freighters), six new aircraft were due for delivery in late 2003 and early 2004 (3 x B777-300’s and 3 x A330-300’s). Were some the 777’s and A330’s delivered late last year, and when are the outstanding aircraft due for delivery?

A rumor that was making its way around late 2003 was that CX had ordered 14(?) new aircraft. Is anyone able to give me a breakdown of these aircraft and delivery dates?

CX have become the launch customer for the new 747-400 special freighter program and are converting between 6 and 12 B747-400’s from the Pax Fleet to freighters with the first delivery in Dec 2005, and its sixth during 2007. Do these aircraft become part of the 14(?) aircraft listed in the paragraph above, or are these in addition to the aircraft mentioned above?

Any update of the information would be greatly appreciated.

The last of the aircraft youre talking about was delivered this week (a triple-7).

As of this exact moment the only aircraft on order is the 744SF (CX is the launch customer).

Late 2003 CX announced that they are on the market for another 14 744s for the pax fleet. The idea is to buy low time 744s for the pax fleet and convert 'upto' 6 current fleet acft into 744SFs.

** Keep your ear to the ground on this one as within the next fortnight we expect official announcement of where these 14 744s are coming from (BA?) plus a further announcement on more regional acft...........

My info indicates that they are adding 13 or 14 744 Freighters, from the following sources:

1 744 freighter new from Boeing.

6 744s will be pulled from the CX passenger fleet and converted into 744 Special Freighters.

6 or 7 744s will be purchased from other airlines and converted into 744 Special Freighters.
