Malaysian flying schools

Anyone have any info on Malaysian flight schools? Kuala Lumpur?

hey ferrydude,

there are a few flying schools in Malaysia. however only some offers up to professional flight training. The well known
MFA (Malaysian Flying Academy) in Malacca offers up to ATPL and used to or maybe still is monopolising the flight training industry in Malaysia. The Langkawi Air Training Centre (LATC) is a new start-up in langkawi also offering up to ATPL. Plz call or check their website. (www.latc.com.my) And the rest only offer up to PPL. Basically there is the Royal Selangor Flying Club (RSFC) and the Johor Flying Club (JFC). In Johor alone, there is 3 flying schools, all offering PPL only. Try check em out. Some states have their clubs too. Like Kedah Flying Club and Perak Flying Club. Okays, hope it'll be useful!!

Thanks I-Fly. It's for a friend who lives there. She only wants a private ticket. I'm not sure how the costs compare, but I think she may do better to come to the states on holiday and get the FAA ticket. I appreciate the info! FD

If your friend is planning to stay in Malaysia for a while and wants to fly there, have her head to Simpang (if she is in KL) and sign up with RSFC. The costs are not that much more these days due to the Ringgit peg and she will need the loacl license anyway. She can always convert it when she goes to the states.
MFA is not geared toward PPL student training.

Costs in Malaysia

RSFC is a good choice, being situated in the centre of Kuala Lumpur and easily accessible from any part of the city.

The current solo rate for a C172 is MYR 265 per hour, add on the instructor fees of MYR 60 per hour for PPL training.

A leased PA28-161 is available at MYR 310 per hour and the instructor rate is MYR 50 per hour (I don't understand either!).

The Ringgit (MYR) is pegged at 3,8 to the US$

There are currently 3 C172 available, as well as the PA 28, and a further 2 C172 are being registered after importation from Oz (VH-MDR and VH-JEX).

Another plus for KL is the central location in Peninsular Malaysia which gives a large selection of exotic destinations for a flight time of less than 2 hours. Lunch on Pangkor Island is a personal favourite just one hour five minutes per leg. Penang is one hour twenty five, and Tioman Island one hour forty.
