Wedderburn airstrip is about 1000m long with only about the first 300m sealed. Does anyone know what sort of costs would be involved to seal the whole length and do a parallel taxiway, as well as seal all taxiways to the hangars. Just rough costs

Try to attract some low cost mob like, say Jettstah. Push the obvious advantages of being centraly located to west bumfuk and you'll have some cunning old Fox offering to pave it in gold before you know it.

Costs will depend on what MTOW aircraft you intend to be able to use the strip, which then determines what sort of preparation/reinforcing/drainage works are required before the tar can be sprayed and given the usual "lolly-coat" of gravel.

Considerations of drainage and where the run-off water goes will also alter costs. Problem is, to undertake such an investigation might well end up costing you as much as the sealing job anyway.

No matter what you do, don't let the NIMBYS or environmentalists (Georges River Environment Group) etc get wind of what you are thinking of doing. If they do, they'll suddenly discover every endangered plant and animal species on the east coast happens to live right on the runway or a few metres away and you'll be required to pay for six-foot high fences to keep animals/plants etc in and predators/visitors/humans/trailbike riders out, as well as environmental impact studies, then you'll start getting the aboriginal land claims, then the noise complaints will start flooding in (very noisy, the chirp of wheels on tar), then the envronmentalists will find the soil under the runway is of a particularly rare type, then the aboroginal lobby will find a sacred site at the threshhold, then the local council will start wanting rent for the hangars, taxiways and start charging for non-existent utilities such as water, electricity, garbage collection etc and on it will go.

If you think sealing your runways and taxiways is going to be a long and protracted business, try finding a site for, and developing, a rifle range!

For a short answer, just look in the yellow pages for a contractor who does asphalting of driveways etc and call them for a quote!
