Boris Trajkovski, the Macedonian president, has been killed in a plane crash in the mountains in southern Bosnia.
The president had been travelling with several staff members in an executive jet when it crashed in foggy conditions.
The plane came down near Stolac, north of the Adriatic port of Dubrovnik. Emergency workers have found the wreckage and confirmed that there are no survivors.
Mr Trajkovski, a 47-year-old lawyer, was elected in late 1999. He oversaw a Nato-brokered peace deal in 2001 that ended months of conflict and prevented a civil war in the state.
He was married with two children
