Saw the most extraordinary public domestic spat on a beach in Brighton today. This chap was arguing with his wife (must admit she seemed a bit of a nag) when suddenly he picked up a length of wood and clobbered her. Not once, but several times. I was just speechless.. .. .Luckily while he was beating her, a policeman turned up – but the guy just stopped hitting his wife and started laying into the copper with the stick instead... . .. ....and then to cap it all this crocodile ran off with a string of sausages.

This is serious! Courts are taking Domestic Violence very seriously these days. . .. .Were any children involved?

Saw something similar some years ago, between a couple of islanders. As there were no lumps of wood around, the guy picked up their kids fold-up . .pushchair and used that to clout his missus (the kid had vacated the chair prior to this event).. .. .The interesting thing, as mentioned in KC's post, the woman would not shut up and in full public view. She was nagging him into a fit of rage. Even after noticing the warning signs of this guy getting steamed up, she did not quieten down. . .. .Sure, it was an assault. But sure as you find cold sh!t in a dead turkey, it was provoked!

Could there be a sub-thread on words most calculated to provoke violence? As in:. .. .She: There's no need to shout, Dear.. .He: Yes, Dear. I am not shouting.. .She: I do wish you'd stop shouting.. .He: I AM not shouting.. .She: Not so loud, Dear.. .He: I AM NOT shouting.. .She: I said you didn't need to shout.. .He: I AM NOT SHOUTING.. .. .And he is the one they put in jail.

JPJ, having not witnessed the incident (alleged offence) in question, I can't comment. I have, however, witnessed many similar incidents in which a small baby was involved. Said infant was thrown across the room, given to the crocodile to play with, and generally treated in a manner that can only brutalise and degrade.. .. .Perhaps you could pass on the concerns of all here to the relavant authorities?

Thank you Mr. Monster, for bringing that to my attention. I shall convene a meeting of the Domestic Violence Unit, and fetch along the Child Protection Team. The Policeman's treatment at the hands of these thugs means that he will have to retire straight away on a full pension, and a substantial compensation claim will be lodged on his behalf by the Police Federation. The Consumer Protection Unit, assisted by Environmental Health, will look into the appalling food hygiene represented by unwrapped sausages being kept at ambient temperature. . .The female victim will be interviewed on video, and offered counselling. Education Social Workers will form a high powered ad hoc working group to counsel the children who witnessed the multiple abuse, and to raech out to their schools in a caring and supportive way.. .. .What is our society coming to?

JPJ. .. .You forgot the demands for an immediate public inquiry to be held, at taxpayers expense, to investigate the growing level of violence on Britains streets and whether or not it is linked to GM crops and foot and mouth disease.. .. .

I have frequently found that irony fails to travel through a modem.

I think you'll find that raw irony doesn't travel by modem since it is magnetic and reverses the polarity of the signal thereby appearing as a virus in the server.. .. .I found that by putting my irony in the centre of an electro-magnetic coil and zapping it I could convert the negative to a positive and make it easier to transmit. It was also better received at the other end.. .. .I hope this helps.
