FRI figures for 2004/5

There is NO FRI in this years Pay Award - check it out on the MODWEB Portals!! FRI was always a temporary measure until ALL forms of additional / specialist pay are reviwed in full between 2005 -2006. Then removed from all trades and branches - just guessing there...but hey...another Labour term..you just never know:ooh:

It always amazes me how so many of you are so sodding negative about the pay structure and allowances and such like.
If you bothered your ar$e and looked at the pay review for the preceeding years you will have noted that the FRI was introduced on a 5 year scheme, which means they do not have to waste time re-iterating it for this year. The figure at the time was given as £30,000 for OR's and £50,000 for Rodney's or something like that. If you use your ill educated brain to work this out I am sure you will come up with the same answer as I, which is that you will receive the same as last years FRI at the time you are eligible. If I am wrong then please feel free to send me some hits but until then stop whingeing and get on with some work for which we get highly paid for. Ask any civil flyer how much they earn and then compare. Better in than out.
Oh yeh and by the way a full review of Aircrew pay and alllowances has been called for in 2005 so it could be good news for us again. Remember that this FRI was only a stop gap. They know they cannot afford to lose us and will do anything to keep us in, so for gods sake give them a chance.
FRI affects me this year as well so I can see your concerns but all it takes is a little research and you will find the answers. The AFPRB is an official document with all the info contained within it and they cannot go back on it now can they. There will be some beady eyed know all out there who would and could contest it.

Have to admit, though, you hit the nail on the head with your post. That's the trouble with such a facility as PPrune, one little question and a heap load of info comes back.
Despite your protests you seemed to have answered the query, so I'd hope you get little thanks for your efforts (just like at work:-)

I've used the same 'lazy logic' on here before with great results. I guess there's always someone out there with more info than thou (and amore importantly, probably gained from painful experience).
The author always has the option of going to Handbrake House if an answer is not forthcoming within the timescale required - but a query on PPrune can stay there, gaining responses, whilst the author is being sent around the houses elsewhere.

Now that you have got off your soapbox I would like to inform you that the FRI was designed to run for three years, the amount being reviewed each year based on the uptake from the previous year. There is no mention of any amounts in the AFPRB report hence the original thread.

I presume you are referring to the NCA FRI scheme, which as you say, was initially planned to run for 3 years. I think the original post was referring the Officers FRI scheme.

Just to be aware though, that as it said in last years AFPRB, the scheme will run for an initial 3 years, but the amounts can/will be reviewed each year, in response to manning levels etc. You never know, if not enough people take up the FRI the levels might be increased ............ or not

My understanding was that the officer FRI scheme was due to run for five years, but the actual amount would be subject to annual review as a direct result of changing retention needs ('management tool' and all that yukspeak).

Consider this. The Jaguar flet is supposedly about to fold, along with a possible decrease in other FJ Sqns, dumping a surplus of fast jet pilots into the system. There are already too many ME pilots in the RAF. Other threads on pprune have discussed (I can only presume they are true!!) that the training machine can't actually turn out all the FJ student pilots backed up in the system, and that many F3 pilots are doing one tour and then going on to ground tours because there are too many of them. EFA will make half the FJ navs redundant, and the RAF predicts only needing 100 navs (sorry WSOs!) in just over 10 years, to the extent that people joining as WSOs are already only being offered short service commissions!

Against the list of comments I have just made do people seriously believe the RAF, while 'downsizing' considerably in the next few years if the rumours are correct, will have a numbers problem to the extent that it feels the need to pay large retention bonuses!!!

Actually, thinking about it again, the RAF may reduce the FRI bonus at the 33 point, but increase the one at 38!! Why you ask? Simple, cost cutting at 33, balanced by good PR increasing the 38 figure. After all they can make the 38 year figure as large as they like if they aren't actually going to offer anyone retention at 38!! (Nice one Sir Humphrey!!)

I'm aware it was a 5 year program - but the MoD reserved the right to vary the amount. That's why I asked the question!

My own unit P-staff don't know. A unit that has heaps of aircrew doesn't know so I thought I'd try here!

Still waiting for a definitive answer though!

Do not sit back and wait for £18k to appear in your bank account; kindly donated by the FRI fairies. If you want to accept the FRI then you must APPLY for it - and make sure P2 give you the correct form - if you forget your own Birthday then no-one will remind you until you've missed the bus!
