What is the smelliest road you know? The one where you wind the windows up, put the ventilation on recirculate, AND hold your breath?. .. .The A/M74 just north of Carlisle gets my vote

The raod between Bombay airport and downtown. That place, and four for a dollar tacos in Tijuana, are the only things guaranteed to make you vomit with no booze involvement.

I think the stench north of Carlisle hails from the animal feed factory in Siloth, it is a stink that has to be experienced to be believed.. .How in the name of all thats holy anybody can live there, I don't know, spent a day there installing a system in a bank, constantly retching at the smell.. .Twould kill a hound dog off a gut waggon as we hillbillies say.

The road on Trinidad which used to pass by both the Rum factory and the garbage dump.. .The smell of fermenting sugar cane mixed with that of garbage rotting in the tropical humidity produced an aroma that would linger for hours.. .. .A olfactory experience never to be forgotten! :eek

you can't really smell it on the road, But RAF Leeming is just next to the A1 so almost counts, anyway about 10 years ago there was a factory or something that used to burn chicken sh!t about 5 miles north and whenever there was a northerley wind you got subjected to the most godawful stench I ever smelt.. .. .well that and CS pellets, but I'd take the chamber anytime

But what have they done to it!!

I-76 and almost any other road in Northern . .Colorado,Eastern Wyoming, and Western parts of South Dakota. Why?The stench from Skunks that have been killed by traffic. At least on the M4 you can prepare yourself for the onslaught from Slough Sewage Works, but out there on the Prairie you never know when your Hooter is going to take a battering. If you can see things in your mind's eye,you can smell things in your mind's nose.I can smell it now-a truly sickening stench.

flapsforty - that's the Uriah Butler Highway in Trinidad. It passes Angostura's rum distillery . The dump is called "The Labasse" by locals. It's very near the approach to Piarco Airport (POS). Indeed it can get smelly at times, especially when they start burning stuff. . .. .Gotta say I-90 (Calumet Expressway) around 111th St on the south side of Chicago is pretty smelly. Paint factories on one side and a huge landfill on the other, with the not-too-distant steel mills in Gary thrown in. Not sure if it's as malodorous now as it was back a few years ago, but it used to really stink. . .. .>edited for spelling<. . . . [ 12 March 2002, 01:09: Message edited by: AtlPax ]

the motorways in Belgium? I have never driven through an entire country suffering constant 'argricultural odours' before. You just can't escape it!

For a wide variety of smells the road from Alexandria to Cairo is fascinating: an open sewer here, camel and donkey dung there, interspersed by the delightful smell of orange blossom and a the mysterious whiff of Egyptian cooking. Olefactory overload indeed.. .. .As ever I remain, Niaga Dessip
