SKYWEST LAUNCHES NEW ROUTES, ENTERS DARWIN

SKYWEST Limited is pleased to announce the launch of new services into Darwin, Karratha and Port Hedland, and an increase of services to Broome, in a major network expansion of the WA-based regional airline.

The new Perth-Karratha-Port Hedland and Perth-Broome-Darwin routes will be serviced by Skywest’s second Fokker 100 jet aircraft, which joins the Skywest fleet in April.

The Perth-Broome-Darwin service commences on April 5, with Skywest flying into the Northern Territory two times a week, expanding to three weekly services in May.

Services into Karratha and Port Hedland commence on 15 May, with six flights per week.

Special introductory fares will be offered to launch the new services, with one way all-inclusive fares between Perth and Darwin available for $259, Perth-Karratha from $229 and Perth-Port Hedland from $229.

Skywest Managing Director Scott Henderson said the new services were a response to market opportunity and overwhelming requests from customers for services to the new ports, particularly from the corporate market.

The launch of the new services will also coincide with the listing of Skywest’s shares on the Australian Stock Exchange, due to take place within the next three months.

Next week, Skywest will announce its results for the six months to 31 December, which will confirm the airline’s return to strong profitability and operational performance.

“The launch of these new services represents a major step forward for Skywest, making us truly networked throughout the length and breadth of Western Australia,” said Mr Henderson.

“The Darwin service is a wonderful development for us, with the NT Government and Chief Minister Clare Martin providing outstanding support. There is strong evidence that additional services linking WA and the Territory will create significant business and tourism opportunities.” Mr Henderson said Skywest was keen to complement the existing Qantas schedule and enhance service and flexibility for passengers.

He added that the arrival of the second Fokker 100 jet also provided Skywest with greatly enhanced ability to grow both its scheduled and charter services even further.
