Hi,

Just a quick question re Emirates flights to Oz on the A340-500.
I was just wondering how does it work with the cabin crew and the long flts times. I know they carry 2 crews but does this a/c have a crew rest area for 15 crew ?!!?

I just watched a documentary on the original concept which was the A3XXX it had crew rest areas located on the upper deck in the aft of the aircraft. I guess on an ultra long haul flight crew can run out of hours so they may rotate shifts.

I think the A3XX you are talking about was/is the new A380 which has yet to fly and will have an upper deck . However the question is about the A340-500 single deck a/c . I thought that there is a rest area below in the belly?

My apologies zed3 you are totally right!! I'm sooo off the planet....must be too many late night shifts...it's actually 3am in the morning here!!

A380 isn't even out yet...it will be the A340....not sure where the crew rest is ..i just assumed it will be in seats marked...reserved or crew only with a sliding curtain around that area.

by the way...do you have a Z3?

cheers

Hi there,
The A340-500 of Emirates has no hold 5 , instaed a crew rest area, spacious and highly equipped, the aircraft itself is an art
flying machine :)

Hi Babyblu,
Flying the big bird is not a big deal..., but managing to pass your exams for the 777, 330 & 340 is the :ouch:

The EK 340-500 has a crew rest area in the aft lower bulk cargo compartment. Access is from the aft galley. It is down the stairs with seperate area for flight deck and cabin crew. It has an electric heat system that is turned on in preflight by the flight crew. If they forget and the compartment gets cold soaked you can forget it. It is like sleeping in a ice box.

I have not flown the 340 as yet, but friends have told me it is very easy to get good rest.

As to the 380, initial data from Airbus is that the flight crew rest area will be accessed directly from the cockpit with stairs down to the rest area from behind the captains seat.

330 MAN,

It makes sense, what you describe about the 340-500 rest area, i did flew on that acft before any commercial passenger or cabin crew does ! but 1 and only 1 inconvenience is the Aft toilet when somebody flash it :ooh:
regarding the A380, a big question mark ? how the cockpit will look like when half dozen of crew getting downstairs to rest area while considering SECURITY...... BOLD point for discussion ;)

330 man

Did you ever had a chance to look what is there bellow the cockpit floor ???? don't even try to imagine ,hell of computers, cables, servers, servos and much more , that area is called avionic compartment and looks like christmas tree with blinking lights !!! if you assumed or someone told you that from "airbus data" he/she is wrong !!!

Aviate I know what it's like having such a Silver baby...my mum has the same silver Supra. I use it sometimes...I deliver milk and newspapers very quickly! I still love a roadster though they're a pleasure to drive/fly! LOL

qfmike737.....Just the 1.9 in black with everything on it! One of the first , bought it nearly seven years ago now (in April) and despite all the comments (hairdresser's car , girly car) I enjoy it. Use it for getting to and from work and will keep it for my retirement as a second car . Looks great with the hardtop on in the winter . All this is now way off topic but it would fit in the belly of a A340-500!!!!!
