Air Scandic are to operate a series of flights to Orlando Sanford from NCL, LGW, MAN, BFS and GLA during Summer 2004 using the leased Finnair 757's!!!! :uhoh:

Is this a bit of a change for Scandic, considering they usually just operated the usual Med charters?

And why are they recruiting for their NCL base, when no flights, except the few SFB's will operate out of NCL for summer 04?

757 across the pond, via Bangor???? Wouldn't like to sit on that for 11 hours!:ooh:

Been done before... Monarch and Airtours both used their 757s accross the pond before getting long haul aircraft. think Air2000 may have as well.

What about the DC10s they are getting?

Do the 757s not have Finnair flight crews (and UK-based Air Scandic cabin crew?).

Finnair do many huge charters with these aircraft in the winter, which like in Canada is their high season for the IT business. They have virtually daily fights from Helsinki to Thailand resorts (Phuket, Utapao), refuelling en-route at Ahmedabad in India, and also several flights a week to Brazilian resorts (Fortaleza, Recife), refuelling in the Canaries, along with a lot of straightforward Canary Islands round trips, which are a LONG way from Helsinki ! So the crews are used to it. But as for the pax .....

Have a look at www.airscandic.com and click on DESTINATIONS.

A look at Orlando (Sanford) from the destinations column will show you the flights planned to SFB from NCL/MAN/BHX/GLA.

Flights on the website as of the end of the last working week.

Cheers,

Back in the 1980's Air Europe used to operate frequehy services from several UK airports to Onlando via Bangor using E powered 757's. Stops in each direction were in Bangor. Passenger reaction was OK on the first sector but once pax got back on after the stop they invaraiably complained about the seating. Overnignt eastbound was very uncomfortable.

AE also used them to fly to Acapulco and was considering moving the tech stop for those flights to Kansas City.

Monarch and Air 200 did similar operationa at that time. Bangor became very much a UK airline crews party centre.

According to www.airscandic.com, the outbound flights will be stopping at Gander, with the inbounds being non-stop.

Air 2000 did indeed operate 757 to Florida, along with MBJ, BGI, and the ill fated ADZ flights. Sometime they even operated MAN-BGR-PVR with a 757 - 15 hours on a 757 must have been like purgatory!

Note to colegate - says you're in Crawley - whereabouts?
