Okay ladies and gents what aircrafts have you flown and how many hours have you got on them?

Heres to start you off:

Vigilant - 152 hrs.

Not very impressive I know but i'm not allowed to touch the real things! :(

Thanks very much for the compliments, much appreciated!

Just one quick question do some of you fast jet boys wear hour patches on your flying suits! Surely that would be a bit sad letting everyone know how many hours you have or am I just being cynical!

Glad you valued your Flying Scholarship so highly. The phrase about gift horse and mouth springs to mind....:mad:

Had to fill out the CAA form to get my 'as good as free' ATPL based on military hours, so I'll see if I've still got it.

But hours aren't everything; they are, however, the only yardstick which the CAA has as they simply cannot test everyone for ability alone...

1500 hours sitting on the flight deck of a 747 eh - how exciting.

Personally I think it should be number of sorties flown - hours totals are rather pointless when all you are doing is drinking coffee. Give me an hour at 250 ft over 8 hrs at FL350 any day.

Gosh, sorry, you're right - didn't mean it to sound like that. "Tw@t" is probably correct, "don't write when you're recovering from a red-eye" is also probably correct. Believe me, I'm very grateful for the FS. The school I selected to give the RAF's money to was my fault, not theirs - the aircraft were in poor state, and we fell way behind sched due to u/s aircraft. The ex-V-force/ CFS A-1 instructor was great, however.

I will edit the post, as on reflection it will stand as an example of not re-reading what you've written. I'll change feet...

And agreed, every hour in the RAF was far more interesting than sipping coffee. Unless it's an IGS approach to Kai Tak during a typhoon....

Going back to the thread with tail-between-legs, yelping:

I was also hoping JohnFarley would put his experiences on here.
My aim was just to show those interested in a Service career flying what a huge variety of aircraft it opens up to you, as I assume was the intent of the thread starter - he did ask for types and hours, after all.

Back page is the most important in the log book. Where you've been. The reams of hours in the front are just to make the book look more important!

OK we'll take that as a mea culpa, mate!

The only reason I'll post my hours is to show the sort of flying which any gash shag (sorry, girlies) of the flares and roll neck 1970s could get in the mob - certainly not because I've ever done anything particularly impressive!

For example, since I first sat in one of HM's aeroplanes (excluding the 1:55 I got in a Sea Vixen coal hole at the age of 15), I managed:

Well so far you guys make my meagre tally seem insignificant probably because it is!

RRAAMJET that is why I started the post not because i'm a sad lonely person but because it interests me the variety of different aircraft you people are all allowed to play with! I added the hours bit on as you log the hours you fly so thought you could add those along with the aircraft.


Chris Kebab feel free to add the number of sorties flown if you want!

Not really - just couldn't be ar$ed to round them up/down - took them straight off my CAA form!

Mind you, minutes probably count hugely for those who've flown Lightnings or early Harriers. Or T31s! Got a few minutes on those as well - plus T21, T42, T49, Bocian, Blanik, ASK21 and whatever the single seat version of the T31 was caled!

smartman - no, I was a Flt Cdt at RAFC Cranwell in 1968. Then given the chance to go to university, so like 140 others I leaped at the chance! Did a year at CW on 99 Entry 68-69, then 4 years at University 69-73 before coming back as a Graduate Entrant 73-74 including Wings course. Very civilised it was too! Lots of hours, lots of fun, not much bull$hit......

I can,t get close to BEAGLE, but...

as a NIMROD CREW CHIEF I did a grand total of 635.50 (as a passenger) down the back

1.30 Tiger Moth (G-ANJA)

plus numerous other gash trips


Much the same as some of the crew I guess

the numbers aren't so big but 2900 hrs (approx 1900 sorties) GR1/4, still flying; JP, Hawk plus a go in a Mirage 2000N, Dutch F16, Jag, MB326 and the best fun trip ever - front seat of a Huey Cobra - really different!

Plus various gash rides in - Meteor (about 5), Vampire, Tiger Moth, Piston Provost, Phantom (USAF and RAF, about 4), F16 about 6), T33 (about 25), F5 (about 10), F18 (exactly 3:25 [stuck in the mind well you see]), Sea Harrier (3).

The point is though ----- loved every minute and would do 'em all again!!!!!!!!!!

My logbook's not to hand either, so here's a few memories:

I've been a private pilot since 1967 and a professional since 1969 - sharing the first three years at the same University College and on the same UAS as BEagle - good times, eh matey!?). In that time I've amassed only 6000+ hours, but that includes three years at Uni, a ground tour of 10 months, 8 years working as CTP of a Company that 'ceased flight operations!', and 8 months off sick.

For the first 12 years I flew 7 types (approx hrs): C150/172, (120), Chipmunk (150), JP (200), Gnat (70), Hunter (300), Jaguar(850) and Hawk (800). Following TP course in France in 81/82, I've added well over 100 types, but here's where the minutes count; from the bottom: Pucara (0:05), Bleriot XI (0:15), Piper Cub: (0:15), Aeronca Chief (0:10), EE Wren: (0:30), EE Lightning (0:30), and so on.

Main types are: BAC1-11 (900), Jaguar (850), Hawk (800), HS125 (500), Spitfire (300), Hunter (300), Harrier (300), Buccaneer (250), BAe 146 (200), Chipmunk (150), JP (200), C150/152/172 (120), Harvard (120), Jodel D120 (100), AC112 (100)

I envy your trip in the Mirage 2000 twenty2fifty - we were planned to fly it on my TP course, but it was behind in it's test program, so we were given the Epsilon to play with instead.......

As you can probably guess I was a spacey many moons ago!

At my age you are not going to get the hours flown, but I must own up to the odd (few) hrs Also to the fact that the Constellation and the DC7 had a line captain aboard in the right hand seat, Myself flying as test pilot for blind landings. Anyway here goes:-
