Hey guys, I know this has been on the forum before but the search facility has been disabled as you probably already know...

The pub that has a beer garden overlooking 24R at manchester, whats the name of it? I'd like to meet a friend there but he needs to know the name of the place

Thanks in advance

Ian

Fond memories of staying there as a kid, prior to a family holiday to Disney World. There were no flights available from any of the London airports, so the travel agent threw in a free nights accomodation for my family, at an establishment with the grand-sounding name The Airport Hotel.

When we arrived and found that the establishment was a pub, yards from the end of the runway, with a couple of rooms, mum was not impressed. I, on the other hand, was very impressed!

That was 20-ish years ago, though - don't know if it's changed names in the mean time.

'a great Robbies pub ' That must be the definition of an oxymoron!

Too right, my definition of a great Robinsons boozer is one which hasn't got any!!!

Yeh! Is that why your east of the Pennines brewers.....John Smiths have to employ a Lancastrian comedian to advertise your beer. There's nowt wrong wit brew from Stockport. Wish we had it here instead of the plastic Smiths!:}
If we are talking beer, why can't you get a cold lager on a flight by any British airline?:{

It's now [unofficially] called "The Old Airport Hotel", 'cos the "New" one was the Forte APH, aka the "Clowne sorry CROWNE Plaza":mad: .
As to Robbies beer, "IF" it is kept right, it's a damn good pint. If it ain't, it's like t'coloured watter from oer't Pennines..:ok: watp,iktch

THey still have rooms available with a balcony overlooking the runway, its a mecca for spotters in summer, and also half the population of Wythenshawe and their kids !!

The Robbies is crap !

OK...sack the landlord then. I's an art looking after your Robbies. Haven't they invented new names for it......Hatters Mild and Frederick Robinson Bitter? What happenned to the white unicorn on a blue round background?
Solution........Watch the aircraft there and drink your Robbies at the Caledonian or the Oddfellows in Ashton-u-Lyne.
There's no other solution!:8

ONG I never thought I would see Ashton mentioned on here either - and how bizarre to see someone else form there too! Although I am now darn sarf as the saying goes, I do *sometimes* miss it - not often though lol. Heard Stalyvegas is now a good night out - tell me what its like if you get there busz?
Not sure on the Caledonian - but isnt the Oddfellows somewhere up Kings Rd?? Should be local for you busz esp if you're in top Mossley?

The Caledonian is on Warrington Street nearly op the Post Office in center.
The Oddies is on Kings Road.
I moved to the south from Ashton 20 years ago( when that awful Courage Tavern was being served) but moved on to warmer climes in Spain a year ago. Surprising how many Brits are doing the same!

Hi, I'm thinking on visiting MAN in the near future and this sounds like the place to stay overnight. Does anyone know of the telephone number so I can find out prices and stuff. Don't care if its a dump, just as long as i can see aircraft it will be just fine :D.

Thanks Dave:ok:
