hello there I-Fly-River, thats pretty old news. There are already monthly crew rotations for JB and AA is also training the AA Thailand crews (Thai crews) locally for their operation up north.

JB rotation crews are getting quite a raw deal consicering that, they get per diem but not mileage and transportation while in JB. It would definitely eat into the allowances especially the FOs.

hav a jolly time flying

I got a run down from a mate of mine in M.A.S. thinkin of joinin A.A. So was I till I read his email. :ugh:

Seems expats to be based in J.B. (Johor Baru) flying EFIS but non-mapped 737-300s (no big deal). But NO accom, you pay own rent/utiliteys. No transport to/from airport, no Company car, find your own way. Local pay only (no expat alowances) - heard J.B. (due to the influance of Sing currencey inflow) has a very expensive cost to live in terms of local malaysan ringit.

4 days on, 3 days off. 80-90 stick per month. Find your own way outside J.B. on days off. NO plan (like consecutive days off) for expats wanting to go home once a month. No interline arangements.

Av take-home pay capts after tax (expats pay tax up to 28pc!) MR10,000 - 11,000.

No pension fund. Locals only.

No education alowance for kids.

Rent: min MR1200-2500 a month in J.B. for something 1/2 decent depending if alone or with the fam.

Food/booze: local grub will keep costs down. Beer costs reasonable. Local food and booze of good qualitey. Livin the life of Riley in Western-style resteys and pubs every night will send you broke.

Elect: 200-300 pm (full aircon runnin)

Others: min MR1500 per month to survive incl road tax, petrol, water, car maint, car rego, insurance, misc.

Company e.o.y. bonus performance (fulley taxable!) can bump up salary av to something like MR15000 pm for capts but you have to wait till March next year to get it and then the @rse is taxed out of it.

Latest E.R.s off todays SCMP: MR3.80/US1 (fixed Ive heard), MR2.94/AUS1.

Damn shame realey since AA has a lot goin for it. I was 1/2 tempted myself.

A Bangkok base in the heart of P.Pong 2 on the other hand.... ;)

I think AA has started bringing in Non-EFIS 737-300. Their Non-EFIS planes do have FMCs but there are no CRTs in the cockpit.
