Can I stop OE-5 opening attachments by default?

Thanks

cool blue,

There is an option in OLE under Tools >> Options >> Security:

Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.

Is that what you are looking for? (If it is, make sure you have that box checkmarked.)

Yes - that's exactly my concern!

However, no such option appears in my security options.

Any ideas?

Thanks

cool blue,

WinXP comes with Version 6 on it, which was all I had to look at for the security options. I was not sure it Version 5 would have the same options in it.

You might want to upgrade to Version 6. If you update Internet Explorer to Version 6, it includes OLE 6.

That way you will be up to date with all the patches Microsoft comes out with.

Take Care,

Richard

I've heard some poor reports about IE-5/OE-5 > IE-6/OE 6 upgrade. Can seemingly create new problems.

If the 0E-5 default isn't alterable, I think I may try Netscape.

Thanks for the information.

cool blue,

I upgraded from IE5/OE5 to IE6/OE6 without any problems. There are always problems and these are usually what get posted, not the other 90% of cases that go well. Back up all of your OE address books and data files and give it a go. The locations of these files have been posted in some recent threads. If it doesn't work, definitely try Netscape/Mozilla which are far less susceptible to viruses, malware and security probelms in general.
