Saw on the TV tonight the new Freedom Air fares to Fiji $199 one way and was wondering what aircraft are they using their 'old' 737-300's or have they got new aircraft just for this route. If not does the -300 have the range to make it to Fiji with reserves?

Thanks

Fiji is closer to Auckland than Brisbane is (by 150km), so i dont see why it would be a problem for a -300. Im not 100% sure but i think Airwork are using an old -200 to fly their charters to Fiji?

Airwork will use their (ex AN) 733 in all ECY config into Fiji.
Read the Herald Fri Jan30, (page A5, by Stuart Dye) where it is reported fairly accurately.
They could not (in the past) not use the -200 over this route as it was not ETOPS approved under their AOC.
It is rumoured Airwark were asked to operate Royal Tongan services when the 757 goes back to Brunei.

A little comment out of the subject.....

Glad to hear Freedom air.......I always had good comments regarding pilots, people, The Girls,Surfing and of course you beautifull country from Taca International Pilots who were flying a lease for you guys in 1996 ????

Definitely I would love to go there one day.

Happy landings

Just dusted off my B737-300 (Boeing) Vol 3 and did the sums for a 1100nm A-B plus IAP and MAP, and a 700 nm Alternate (NOU or APW) B-C + the usual "odds and sods" and came out with 13,700 Kg reqd. By my reckoning this still allows SJ to take 140 PAX ex HLZ to NAN.

I thought NAC used to operate 737-200s to the Pacific Islands long before EROPS was an issue. I think this was late '70s - EROPS was first started by Trans World and American in the mid '80s. Air Pacific used to operate 1-11s into AKL during the 1970s
