Found out this morning that Larry passed away in DXB due to a heart attack. His body is being returned tonight on EK I think.
Larry worked in Domestic traffic for AN at Tulla for a number of years, prior to going into Central Ops & then Duty Airport Manager at Tulla, I believe.
My sincere condolences to the Purcell family, he was a terrific bloke & will be missed.
RIP Larry.

What an absolute tragedy Buster. You wouldn't find a nicer bloke who was so capable in a crisis (so often the case before the collapse). Will be missed by many.

The funeral service for Larry Purcell is being held
on Wed 4 Feb at 11.00am
at "Upstairs at the terminal"
Hargrave Ave, Essendon Airport
Melway Ref 16 C8
A private cremation will follow.

Well, I thought it was a terrific send off today. Great location & good speeches. About 300 people there! Seeya Soapy.
Coincidentally, there was, what appeared to be a Cessna parked just outside the terminal with the old Ansett "Aussie Flag" tail. Anyone know of this aircraft? Ex-AN staffer perhaps?

Indeed it was B772. AKA soapy, scooter, Mr. Larry (By the locals at Dnata).
