It has been said that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

So, at the risk of demonstrating our ignorance here in this remote and isolated outpost, I ask assistance from any who can advise us how to quickly put a link into a post that takes the reader/user to another address on the web.

On the few times we've done so, we have had to type in the full address with all the slashes and dots and digits; a lenghty task prone to error. Somehow the computer recognises the address as a link (like magic).

I'm thinking that there's a click and drag process available. (?)
And that the full address can be replaced with a simple link word or phrase; eg 'here' or 'report on Maud's Land underarm growth here'.

Any help would be etc, etc.
Many thanks.

Use the "http://" button in the message editor.
First you can (optionaly) input some text such as "this is the page" and then input the so-called "URL" with all its slashes, as you say.

This is best done though copying and pasting.

Assuming the address you want is that of a web page, you can select the address in the address window of your browser then copy with CTRL-C or right-mouse click and "copy text" or, if you have a link on a web page, right-click on it and select "copy link adddres" or something like that.

Once the link is copied, you can paste it with either CTRL-V or Edit/Paste from the menubar of your browser

Hope this helps

Bre901, thank you.

We regret the tawdry delay in the expression of our appreciation; called away unexpectantly quite elsewhere, as it happened, for a few days. Once again, many thanks.
