There are a small number of vacancies for non type qualified Direct Entry Pilots for conversion training onto both the Airbus and Boeing fleets. The minimum entry requirements are an Air Transport Pilots Licence (or frozen ATPL) - UK CAA or JAA, Class 1 Medical, MCC qualification, Performance A and the ability to work and reside in the EU

Excellent. If anyone applies let us know how you get on. :D

Thanks Tailscrape. Downloaded the application though don't have Acrobat to edit it to send it electronically. Guess fax and snail mail will have to do. Good news that things are moving - let's hope other companies are following shortly.

Splendid!

Good to see that there are no daft essay-style questions to waste time over as well! Mind you, we're now expected to find 3 aviation professionals to be referees- my pool of allies expands ever further...

Thanks for sharing the secret, Tailscrape!

Guys, it was no secret! Good luck to those applying.

In my opinion, TC are one of the better companies about. After Sept 11 2001, they had some bad things to do... such as dumping aircraft and crews.

However, unlike some they held their breath and did their business in a humane way. A lot of that goes down as serious credit to the former Chief Pilot and Boeing Fleet Manager. They held firm and helped their guys out.

However, it is also worth noting that the current Chief Pilot is a good guy to in my opinion. He has been there from the beginning and is approachable and decent. The new Boeing Manager is a top man, who is also a very decent man.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it is a decent gig run by decent guys.

I am certainly glad to be a TC pilot..... albeit one just about to return to them after two years on a career break.:p One of the many initiatives offered post Sept 11.

So, again... good luck guys. They are a straightforward outfit who look after their guys a lot better than many do.

Just wondered if the direct entry has an hours requirement? It doesn't mention it in the text about 'Direct Entry', but the next paragraph reads thus;

" CTC ATP Scheme Entry
For pilot with a frozen ATPL but less than 500 hours total experience we continue to take a small number of entrants through CTC’s ATP Scheme. Go to CTC’s website to learn more about the ATP Scheme. "

By implication then does one need a minimum of 500hrs for direct entry? Just a thought, sorry if it disappoints anyone.

Best of luck to you all, I also enjoyed my time with them in their former guise.

Pete,

PART A Gen/Basic used to state a minimum of 700 hours unless you were a CTC cadet.

However, this time who knows?

I believe the words used are "the person" in what they may be looking for.

As they have a lot of experience in the company right now, perhaps they may balance the demographics.

As Pilot Pete has noted, Thomas Cook are not taking low-time pilots directly. Any low-time Fatpls are going to be recruited from CTC as they have done in the past.

Just spoke with Flight operations who confirmed this and it has not changed.

For a pilot with a frozen ATPL but less than 500 hours total then via CTC’s ATP Scheme.

Good luck for to all those applying.

More movement in the job market can only be a good thing
