Hello!

I am looking for some info about the jato system that was used in the 70s(? ) with the B727. Mexicana is the only airline that used them as far as I am aware. I´m interested to know more details about the system, where it was installed, used frequently, effectiveness, performance etc.

Thanks,

Not B727 related ... but on the subject of JATOs ...

You heard about the alleged guy who strapped a JATO bottle onto his Chev Impala? He and his auto were found embedded in a cliff face, forty feet above the road. He received a Darwin Award (http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1995-04.html)! (But the story may not be true.)

And the USMC who trialed JATO assisted landings in a C130? Didn't work! And they didn't receive a Darwin Award!

:}

Interesting history of JATO development, particularly regarding the Ercoupe experiment!

Squawk.
There is a boeing flight test video from the 70's showing the jato/rato 727 take off. Not sure how u could get a copy but I would think Boeing would be the place to start.
