Any truth about the VLE 330's being retained somewhere by local authorities because of financial troubles?

Aviation Letter (November 2003) reported that two of the Volare A330s were impounded at Dublin last October while on maintenance, and more recently that Volare are getting out of long haul and returning all their A330s to the lessors.

Can't answer any of your questions, but I was in Milan today and saw a couple of Volare A330s operating (they are 200s by the way). There was certainly more action by Volare than by Alitalia (they were on strike for eight hours :hmm: ).

Does the plot thicken on Volare's future?

Went to the Volare group websites which cover the operations of Volare Group and Airline as well as the former Air Europe and they now flick you over to the VolareWeb site. No more information on the charter operations nor the Group as was avaiable for a long time through those websites.

Anyone booking flights a long time ahead? Worth the risk?

Perhaps after the Parmalatt fiasco, Italian banks and auditing firms might be having a look at other rapidly growing Italian companies? Credit lines getting stretched? Lessors worried?

Any comments anyone?

Cheers

Rumour............and this is a rumour forum.

2 A330-200s in EIDW have been offered to EI by the lessor.
EI considering but as yet not nibbling on the carrot let alone biting.

Heard from a friend (VLE pilot) that they haven't been paid salary yet this month and they are flying without catering until they pay what they owe to the Caterer. Plus they have wetleased 3 aircrafts from 3 different companies to replace the impounded ones. Seems that one of the guys who was supposed to invest (90M Euros...) lost money with parmalat and quit.

2 of the A330s, I-VLEC and I-VLED , are due for delivery to Air Madrid (5 year lease from ILFC) in May '04.

I think EI would very much like to take the aircraft - they are after all GE powered, as are its current 332s - but unfortunately, the US bilateral process is stalled. They have already said they're not introducing new routes this Summer, so there's not much point in taking on new aircraft.

Of course, if things change, there may well be an opportunity to take on more capacity. A frustrating situation indeed, because these aircraft would suit them very nicely.

I had thought Air Madrid was going for A340s and I'd expect that QR would only want new aircraft.

Also, although an RR Trent operator, I know EK is looking for extra capacity.

Sincere apologies, BillyG, I just got my "Aviation Letter" in the post and I-VLED is indeed going to Air Madrid for 5 years; I had heard elsewhere that they were getting 340s . (It doesn't mention 'VLEC, but they're hardly going to get just one!) :O

Incidentally, Aviation Letter also says that 'VLEE left DUB for AUH on the 6/12/03 for maintenance.

They have just signed a deal to lease 767's from Icelandair.

Apart from the A330's going , some A320's are also going back to the lessors.

oh well, seems nobody working with Volare wants to comment and advise we're wrong with our doubts about the long term future of another highly geared Italian private company.

Maybe they are worried about something?

At least this will get it back up to the first page of this section!

I think that we have to wait until the 28th of Febuary to find out the fate of Volare . Thats the date of the board meeting (CDA) when they should announce who the new owner is going to be . Mr Eurnekian as favorite but it depends on the banks.
In the meantime : Some intercontinental flights have left without catering, other flights have left with delays causing near riots at the airport ( at FCO the other day for the Maldives the police were called at the dept. gate). It's a sorry state of affairs, I hope for the benifit of a lot of good people (middle managent excluded) that things get sorted out.
