From wideroe.no:

Widerøe expands its Newcastle services

(Bodø 7th January 2004) As of March 1st, travel between Norway and Newcastle will be even easier. A second daily roundtrip service between Stavanger and Newcastle will as of that date be introduced. In addition, the company will improve its timetable and a larger and faster type of aircraft will be introduced on the Bergen – Manchester service.

One of the areas that Widerøe has given high priority is the market between Western Norway and Great Britain. One third of the Norwegian market in Newcastle is in the Oslo area. When drawing up an optimal timetable, emphasis has been placed on achieving the best possible timings for connecting flights to Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. Flight connection to Bergen, Sandefjord as well as to and from Copenhagen will likewise be very satisfactory.

There are long standing business relations between Norway and Newcastle, in particular within shipping and oil related activities. This service is, however, also an good proposal to the vacation and leisure market. Newcastle is a wonderful city with culture, shopping and football. It is well situated as a starting point for an adventure tour to this part of Great Britain.

-Widerøe has operated this sector since January 2002 and sees a growing demand. This fact together with the long standing ties show that there is a demand in this market. With a morning- and afternoon service, the business market has an excellent offer with a number of good connecting flights to other destinations via Stavanger, says Manager Network & Pricing Mr. Peter Arvidsson. He also informs that during the summer period, the company will also operate a Saturday service. The 50 seat Dash 8-300 will operate on weekdays while the 76 seat Dash 8 Q400 will operate the service on Sundays.

The company will also strengthen its new service between Bergen and Manchester with a more suitable timetable and larger aircraft. Monday thru Friday the departure will be at 08.50 and the service will be operated with the 76 seat Dash 8 Q400.
-The new timetable will give better connections in both directions, in particular to and from Ålesund, which is requested by the business market. Larger aircraft gives to possibility to serve the group market with focus both on the vacation- and leisure market as well as the football segment, says Mr. Arvidsson.

Widerøe has today a close cooperation with SAS Airlines and Braathens. This implies that Widerøe offers Eurobonus as well as through fares an check in.
