Just bought an epson cx3200 multi-function! but can't get the printer to work.
Keep getting the message "no usable port for this printer"
Anybody know what this means?
Would appreciate your help. nooluv..........

nooluv,

Which Operating System are you running?

How are you connecting the printer to the computer? Parallel or USB?

Did you install the drivers for the printer?

Richard

Yeah I'm running windows 2000 pro.
U.S.B. Have installed drivers, from disc & epson web site.
Tried uninstalling everything & re-installing, still no luck.
The scanner etc are working o.k.

nooluv,

You did the first thing I would have. Are you using any programs that run in DOS? You might need to map the port. Try installing the drivers and say you will be using DOS Programs so it maps the Printer Port to an LPT Port.

I did a little looking around the Epson Website and they have several FAQs for USB Issues:

Why do I get the error message “Error writing to EPUSB1”? (http://support.epson-europe.com/faqs/en/020096_mf.htm)

Why do I get the error message “Error writing to LPT1”? (http://support.epson-europe.com/faqs/en/020097_mf.htm)

The last article looks the most promising.

Nooluv,

I believe the cx3200 has a usb 2.0 port, does your computer have a 1.0 or 1.1 usb?

usb 2.0 is compatible with usb 1.1, but won't run properly on
usb 1.0... Otherwise step over to parallel (cx3200 supports both I believe) and see what happens..

That is great news. What did you do in the end to fix it?

Richard. (naci). my windows 2000 usb port hadn't been set up to accept the printer.
It would take to long to explain here, but a guy from epson guided me thru the set up on the phone, took about 20 minutes.
spot on now thank's.
