I have gotten this annoying cookie alert, even when I have NO windows open. Last installation was some codecs (which fixed some play issues) but I can't locate the trigger for this pest.

Second but related question....what is a good codec pack nowadays for avi, etc?

Cheers!!

You could run Spy Bot and/or Ad-Aware, both free from Downloads.com (http://www.download.com/) (search 'In Downloads')

'Gator' is easily got rid of by either of these anti-spyware tools.

Before running, clear Temprary Internet Files first, in order to speed up the scan.

Hope that helps

Captain Over,

Do you remember a popup offering to you the option to install a plug-in? If you had the Gator plug-in window and you clicked the option to let it install, you would have allowed Gator into your system. If you did not see any popup window, then your IE Security settings are too low.

Here is an article on Gator from TechTv's Call for Help:

Remove Gator (http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/howto/story/0%2C24330%2C3389395%2C00.html)

Take Care,

Richard

Hello Richard & Bug.

Yep, Spyware. I removed that damn gator as per Richard's recommendation, then ran AdAware (hadn't ran it for a few weeks). Found a few nasty things that I never clicked to load. This crap is annoying. Spam & spyware sure suck!

Cheers, and thanks again!

Captain Over,

In IE, go to Tools >> Internet Options and check your Security and Privacy Tabs. You might want to increase them one level.

Take Care,

Richard
