Hi

I have been using Win98 for years. Got a WINDOWS XP Professional pack for Xmas. I want to know is the upgrade/instalation straight forward.??

What about my Office 97 items ???? Will they still work as normal??

Any tricks / downfalls I should watch for???

Sikpupi,

Going from Win98 to WinXP is a big jump. You are better off with a newer computer for running WinXP. (You do not want to have too many legacy components in a machine running WinXP.)

Do run the compatibility check from Windows to make sure your hardware and software will work with WinXP before you do the upgrade. (The things that are not expected to work are the Antivirus and the CD Burner software.)

Take Care,

You need quite a fast PC and bus as well as an absolute minimum of 256MB of memory (512 is best) to run XP happily.

The upgrade process is somewhat bumpy (despite M$'s hype) and new installs of XP work best. As Richard says, some of your peripheral may stop working and you'll need XP drivers for most of the rest. OTOH XP is a much better and more stable OS.

If your '98 is working satisfactorily spare yourself some grief and stick with it.
