:ok:Good day fellow ppruners. I am a practising specialist physician, and a former air force trained pilot. I hold ATP's for both Airplanes & Helicopters. I have lived in Canada for the last couple of years, and owned and operated my own MD 530F.

I have recently left Gauteng for Cape Town, and are looking at finding myself a little part time flying job. I'm particularly interested to find a helicopter job.

Can any of you fellow pprune members recommend any of the helicopter companies in Cape Town I should approach? I heard the SA Red Cross are always looking for volunteers. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Many thanks. Bladestrap.

Attention: Troll Alert
Hey Doc, you can make more with two stiches than you can in a week flying Helicopters.(Why would a Physician, who owns his own Helicopter want a flying job which pays Zippo, Nada, Nothing)

Hey Bladestrap stick to your profession don't take the food out of the mouth of the guys that need the work you obviously don't. If you want to fly go hire an aircraft and put some money into the industry.

Cheers

Sheez guys! What sort of an attituide is that to take to someone just keen to fly , even for free?

Bladestrap, unfortunately I don't have any specific advice but I am certain that organizations like Young Eagles or Bateleurs could use your skills. Darrel Lush on www.avcom.co.za might have more info regarding Bateleurs.

:yuk:No wonder the flying fraternity here in FACT is so  up, considering the attitude of some! GTJDS, you are obviously a desperado pilot or wannabee huh?

The purpose of my posting was to find some part time flying, and to be of assistance (free of charge) to anyone or company who may require a pilot from time to time, like the Red Cross maybe, where service is voluntary.

Anyway, it makes no difference, as I have done my walk about around Cape Town International and the Waterfront, and have chatted to some guys. Very interesting! What is patently clear, is that their is so much animosity amongst the operators, and nothing good was said by anyone I chatted with. Now I know why people like GTJDS are so bitter about new people arriving on the scene, as he probably needs a flying job more than he needs his front teeth :} (That is if he's a pilot of course!) Its such a pity that the aviation business here is so "Un-gentlemen-like!

Good luck to you all.

Bladestrap, Thought those posts would generate a rise from you....
Dont just look at S.A. for the Attitude in the Helicopter Industry. The U.S. Operates daily in the same fashion. I hear it every day I go to work. Whining, Bitching etc. Mainly due to a Profession which most Pilots love but get very little as a rule in pay and benefits.
Since I do not require this for an income its easier for me to sit back and just pick up part time stuff. BUT as an example I had a nice little Seasonal job in the Caribbean every year. The reason Im not there this year.......Some newbie paid his own ticket there and is working for free to build time. I cannot nor can any working Pilot, compete with that. Therin lies your Problem.
If you are an MD, have a love for Helicopters and some Business Savy, you may want to consider forming a Company in SA working with Insurance Companies and start an EMS empire. It would be nice to have a Doctor/Pilot involved rather than some Bean Counter who knows didly squat about avation and/or medicine.....

bladestrap a post stating that you are willing to work for free!?! C'mon man, what are you thinking? Maybe the rest of the pilots in the industry will thank you for making it even harder to get a job that pays a decent amount of money.

B Sousa is outta he's part time job for the exact reason you posted.

Think about it...

Hi guys

I am a commercial pilot but I am also a fully qualified brain surgeon. I recently moved to Cape Town and would be interested in doing the odd frontal lobotomy on the side just to keep my hand in. Do any of you guys know any hospitals that may be interested in my services? I am prepared to work for free since the surgery is really just a hobby for me. Any advice appreciated.

mmm...now I feel kinda stupid, still angry, but a little bit ...dumb
my fiance just cr@pped my out for going off on bladestrap , according to her he must be a good person who wanted to do something good for other people and thus volunteer his services......ok fine, maybe that is the real deal, but methinks he did not think the whole thing through....

maybe now that its been made known to him that his actions, well meaning as they may be, could potentially threaten somebody's job....he will reconsider and just fly his own chopper

yo dudes.
let me get on this bandwagon as well.

wow free jobs in CT. this sounds perfect for me. You see i have all those jet hours from the airforce just going to waste now. thats because i learned to surf and now i am about to turn Pro!

So i woudnt need any money from flying...

Think Thunder City might give a me some time in the two seaters just to keep my hand in between surf competitions?
