I posted a similar message on the FAR EAST FORUM under Pacific Airlines-Working conditions. I read both of these forums.

Since the Gulf is a hotbed of hiring of expats, I would like to start a discussion about what working conditions, hours, days off, vacations, bidding system (or lack thereof), vacations, etc. and how the various Gulf Airlines treat their workforce. I would encourage anyone to tellus about your airline (the good and bad) just for comparisons.

As someone who has not worked in that region, my impression is that people working there get longer trips away from base and get much longer vacations on which to leave the region, but spend most of any part of a month working. That means leaving the area is far and few times between. Can one commute to other places in Asia and Europe? Is there a "conventional" jumpseat program if one would do that? Are there reserves or whow are irregular trips and pilot sick leave trips covered?

Any information would be appreciated.

Also Merry Christmas to you all. How significant is Christmas and New Year's that part of the world???

Jim

My honest advice to expats would be to only come to the Gulf as a Captain or as an F/O with EK or maybe Eithad.

I did not like the region so my view of my former carrier could be unfairly jaded. But I sincerely believe my first paragraph wise advice!

Bagshaw..thanks for your comments...

It does appear that anyone wishes to share any information ehre.

I just see the negative postings about most of the places where people work,so just trying to find out if it is just chronic compliners or whether it is really bad.
