Apart from what it says, what does it mean (in useful terms?).

It shows up in a floating box in my screensaver window (where previously I had the good old 3D Flower Box).

Since this message appeared I've racked my brains to figure what might have brought it on but can't come up with any installation or de-install that tallies.

Has your system done a Windows auto-update lately? It's a video card driver problem.

Re-install your video card driver, better still, load the latest one from the manufacturer's site.

Seems to be a reasonably common NVIDIA problem (in varying manifestations). I also found reference to a well-known Nvidia 60mhz bug.
Downloaded the latest drivers and their all-singing Nvidia Utility, played with that and got nowhere. Back to the aquarium screensavers then. They work OK.

Belgique,

Windows update added support for your Vid Card so it loaded the Microsoft Drivers which does not support D3D.

Downoad and install the latest nVidia ForceWare Driver (http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp) and you will have D3D Support again.

In the nVidia Driver Settings you will find refresh rate overrides so you can set D3D and OpenGL to a refrest rate other than 60Hz.

Take Care,

Richard

Thanks Richard

The Forceware (ver 5.3) didn't seem to achieve the mission (even at 85Hz) but I kept winding it back to an eventual success with 5.01.2001.1240.

It would seem that the D3D crippling was a Microsloth achievement therefore.
