A strong rumour that next year, BA's Citiexpress fleet will comprise at least 5 ex-LGW B737s is doing the rounds. The LGW fleet will be A319s and the B737s are being farmed off.

Any truth in this?

BACX can't operate 737s as its prohibited under BAs Scope agreement. If the 737s made a comeback it would have to be under some sort of wet-lease with BA mainline, which would all be a bit strange. First A319 isn't due at LGW until 3rd/4th quarter 2004, so don't expect to see all the 737s farmed off any time soon.

Ahh the scope agreement, yet another union barrier to prevent flexibility, lower costs and profitability. All in the name of protecting mainline pilots by actually hindering BA and therefore further putting at risk those very people.
Is there actually enough customers with BACX to make this an option ?

The way this outfit is going it will be lucky if we are involved in any regional services by the winter of 2004. As there is reputed to be a further five Euro services from LGW for summer 2004 I fail to see an where any surplus 737 's will be found.

The recently published Annual Bid document shows the following:

Fleet/Base Current Summer04 Summer05

737/LHR 4 0 0
737/LGW 39 31 30

Total 737 43 31 30

A319/LGW 0 0 3

Don't know where the 737's are going, could just be being returned to lessor.

Assuming that there are 5 new services from LGW, a reduction of 13 aircraft, and the implementation of only 3 A319s, are the A321s going to LGW as well then?

Ahh, so how come the 'expensive, inflexible' BA pilots in the regions operated at an overall profit, whereas the 'cheap and flexible' BACX pilots are running at a massive loss? Methinks there is a flaw in your 'pilot cheapness is the only road to profits' argument.

Carnage,

Your blinkers are still firmly in place. As the commercial reality continues to bite in shorthaul, I look forward to your posts as time goes by. Take a look and do a liitle reading on how things are developing in the states regarding "scopes".
