Germanwings expands with 7 new summer-destinations

GERMANWINGS LAYS FOUNDATIONS FOR FURTHER VIGOROUS GROWTH:
NEW FLIGHTS FROM COLOGNE/BONN TO MAJORCA, MUNICH, WARSAW, FARO, HELSINKI, OSLO AND STOCKHOLM

London– December 17th- Germanwings today announces 7 new destinations from Cologne/ Bonn in its new summer schedule. Flights to Majorca, Munich, Warsaw, Faro, Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm are bookable from this Thursday 18th December.

The low-cost airline will fly to Palma de Mallorca supporting the tour operator Thomas Cook’s Neckermann ‘Price-Cruncher’ package deals. A new domestic route to Munich adds one of Germany’s top international airports to Germanwings growing portfolio. Another new southern destination is Faro, while in Eastern Europe Warsaw will added as a destination for private and business travel in support of Poland’s accession to the EU. Major expansion in Northern Europe includes the Scandinavian capitals Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm.

From 28th March 2004, Germanwings summer timetable will serve some of the most interesting destinations throughout Europe. Bookings for the new flights open at 3 pm (GMT) this Thursday (18th December). Bookings for existing routes from Cologne/ Bonn to Berlin and Dresden this summer can likewise be booked from Thursday.

"Our summer programme from North Rhine Westphalia is now completely available," explained Germanwings MD Dr. Joachim Klein. "Plans for Cologne/ Bonn are finalised. Once again, we’re adding seven destinations in Southern, Eastern and particularly Northern Europe to the 23 destinations we already fly to. We also have great expectations of the Cologne/ Bonn to Munich route."

The Majorcan capital Palma is a notable addition to Germanwings’s activities in the south. Thomas Cook will now be offering package deals in the low-cost segment under the Neckermann Preisknüller (price-cruncher) label that will make use of Germanwings flights to Majorca. Flights can also be booked to this favourite holiday island without the package, on the Germanwings home page www.germanwings.com.

Established airlines flying north will be forced to watch their backs from 28th March, with powerful competition at budget rates to Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm. The Scandinavian metropolises and their wide range of cultural facilities and events will now be within easy reach for Germanwings customers – even for short breaks.

Almost perfectly timed to celebrate the expansion of the EU in Eastern Europe, Germanwings will be also serving Warsaw, which will appeal to tourists and business travellers alike. “Northern and Eastern Europe have the destinations with currently the greatest growth potential,” comments Dr Joachim Klein. “Germanwings is the first no-frills airline to open up these destinations systematically.”

It is a shame they wont try Cork two or three times a week in the summer - I am sure it would be worth trying. :8

Of note is that Germanwings has become to first major LCC to announce service to Poland in the form of the 4x weekly CGN-WAW route. This route also features on Air Polonia's map of future destinations.
