Yes, Tony Tyler is considering it. See articles in to-day's SCMP.

DT at the business brief early this year stated, after being asked the question of a LLC that - NO WAY WHAT SO EVER IS CATHAY LOOKING AT A LCC!! Seems like the lies dont match up again.:ooh:

Like the famous quote of John Bremridge: "There is no money in freight!"

"There are absolutely no plans for Cathay Pacific to ground the passenger fleet," Tony Tyler, director of corporate development, told CNN.

" All the memo intended to do was to communicate to a very important segment of the work force -- the air crew, the pilots -- that times are difficult at the moment," he said.

One wonders what area LCC CX will find to cut costs...aircraft, engineering or crew? The old adage "Arrive in Battered Shape" may yet come to fruition.

Rumour is that they can't find enough suitable applicants to Captain the freighters. Also they are apparently refusing to allow FOs to transfer from freighter to pax mainline due crew shortage. This has, however, resulted in the frozen freighter FOs earning more than the freighter Captains.

An all-stations call to newly retired CX Captains is anticipated the next step, followed by…?

All just rumour of course. Could be just a big lie!

From what I read elsewhere CX could fill it's ranks with qualified expat captains for the freighter fleet very quickly if it made a few 'phone calls to Singapore right now!;)

From what I hear there are 48 still eligible people who would return to help CX with its crewing problem......

CX has realised that in matters La Dickensian management, it still has much to learn from its cross town rivals in the Lion State.

Leaked papers from the Star Chamber reveal a One World joint venture solution is taking shape.

An early copy of tomorrow's nostril clearing press release, has, like a patronizing escape of steam, found it's way into my possesion.....

Tiger Balm Airways

Tiger Balm Airways owes its origins to a soothing, balmy business model prepared for Little Emperors who have long suffered from various aches and pains in their flight ops departments.

American and Irish corporate doctors and financiers used it on their pilots as an analgesic rub blended from natural instincts.

The fact that the formulation, to be known as Tiger Balm Airways in Asia, will thrive in a more enlightened age is due to one man.

This man is a famous Irish herbalist from Tipperary. His desire was to treat his pilots the only way he knew. He had studied the types of effective remedies and discovered that the blending of various active ingredients - such as long hours, low salary, with clove and menthol applied to their private parts- really brought balance sheet relief.

Tiger Balm Airways formulation will be highly effective as a mild laxative for aircrew, for countering irritation at board room level, and for promoting good cash flow and a better return on equity.

The entrepreneurial side in Asia fell to his two disciples Aw Tek Dat and Aw Mee Too. It is the Irish herbalist who lends his name , meaning Tiger, and cash, to the remedy.

As well as being an anglicised version of his name, the Tiger, synonymous in the East with strength and carnivorous vitality, seemed the obvious association for such a pilot-pain reliever.

Aw Tek Dat and Aw Mee Too realised the potential of their mentor's product and will soon transform his home-produced remedy into a world renowned brand.

Tiger Balm Airways will be set up in Singapore and Hong Kong in 2004 and will soon be one of the world's leading aircrew analgesics; with a soothing action that relieves pilots of wondering what to do about the pain caused by a reasonable income and lifestyle.

Tiger Balm Airways will initially come in two versions, Tiger Balm White, to be based in HK and Tiger Balm Red, to be based in Singapore.

Within two years the two versions will be blended into a single product which should be more Red than White

LOL HFX, an excellent analogy. Don't know why it reminds me of the two shop houses in Singapore's Arab Street with their signs of "Wee Ken Fuk" and "So Ken Wee", on the opposite side.

Wonder whether Lee Kee Shoes is still plying his trade in Carnarvon Road?

Hi Traffic, Lee Kee Shoes used to be in Hankow Rd. No longer there, disappeared about the same time as the Bottoms Up, I think. The Hot Lips Bar is still functioning though. Cheers, HD.

Happy New Year.

Indeed Hankow it was. Bottoms Up is very tired but still there. Red Lips seems to be under new management, which is only to be expected. I am sure none of the grannies from the 60's and 70's would still be above terra firma.

Ah yes, Red Lips it is. Always good for a giggle, especially Josephine quoting Shakespear.

They are all, of course, subsidiaries of the parent company Phukom International Pte Ltd of Upper Changi Rd. (Sorry am unable to put photo of corporate headquarters due to my technical inability)
