Heard a rumour from people who should know that those genius economic rationalist accountatnts in ASA are thinking the towers must pay......... and have worked out $36/tonne in BK and $44 per tonne at CN. Any truth in this? Lets just make 'em CTAFs - we can do anything now we have 'just a question of risk managment' NAS!
Perhaps a better (safer and cheaper) solution would be a service somewhere between aerodrome control and CTAF.
Certified Air/Ground Radio Service (CA/GRS) perhaps, just like at Ayers Rock and Broome? Seems to work reasonably well in both those locations.

MBZ seems to work OK at CN on weekdays.
The place was dead when I was out there on Thursday.
Tower is still needed on weekends, though.
I noticed today was pretty busy, partly because the Air Training Corps was in full swing.
