Sorry if this is a bit of an 'anorak' question but I'm curious about a heavy turboprop that passes over EGMC at high level most evenings (tonight incuded) at around 23.30/23.45 ish West to East. A eal hum, even at high level. At a guess i'd say maybe an Electra or some similar size or sound. Any ideas what it is or where its from/to?
Also tonight a second one passed over at 00.10 but sounded a bit quieter.
Appreciate if anyone can ease my curiosity....

first one is probably the Atlantic Electra from Belfast to Coventry. As for the second? could be smaller turboprop say an HS748 out of LPL, They trundle all round the country for the post office at the moment , soon to be replaced with 737/146/L188s with containerised freight.

I think this is the exact same aircraft we discussed here...

... a couple of months ago and never really got to the bottom of. It come over me (about 25nm west of you) right on 2300 on the nights it operates (or routes this way). My favourite is still the Cardiff - Liege Electra.

Or the Liverpool/Liege Electra, normally leaves Liverpool at about 22:30

...just wait until your hear the drone of an AN-22. Even a high-ish levels, the drone is tooth-loosening :D

Unfortunately, you may have to wait a while, as they are fairly infrequent visitors to our shores.

Is that the Strato 340 with the space cab? If so then it's AB Craibs of Dyce. If not then it's probably one of those dead common Bibby's ones. Hope this helps.

Just proves I should read the post before replying. Thought I'd read manchester, not EGMC so I guess your right and its not the Electra.
Unless its on ACMI and getting paid by the minute in which case that seems like a perfectly reasonable route :p
