Big rumour at EMA that FR are on the way in 2004. 20+ FR capts applied for security passes Anybody heard anything? Plus a Britannia 767 being pulled from NCL to come to EMA. New extension for international deps lounge about to commence construction. All seems to be adding up.

The 767 wont be coming from NCL, unless its a -200 and NCL is getting a -300

the Ryanair rumour has been doing the rounds the last few weeks-but is very unlikely, EMA have had a B767/200 for the summer season the last two years except that it disapears for the peak summer months!

Is there a Boeing simulator at East Midlands and would you need an airport security pass for access?

Yes there is, and Ryanair crews use it, quite often they come straight out to the aircraft and fly the circuits they need!
but it is landside

FR already use EMA alot for training and touch and go's. Would the Cpts need badges for this type of operation??

Is the badge application the only source of the "Big Rumours" or is there any other info you can share?

According to staff at EMA senior mgmt
have been nipping across to DUB and it
was not for the Guiness. Have also heard from
FR sources that they are looking at services
to EMA from all their bases except PIK

I can confirm that a deal has been signed for a three aircraft based operation from Summer 04.

Personally I would welcome a new and dedicated low cost operator to East Midlands Airport, and I really do hope that the rumor is true that they are going to be arriving in 2004.

Unfortunately, EMA I find has not had very dedicated LCCs.
Whilst it is great to have two low-cost-airlines at the airport, EasyJet hasnt expanded their route network in over a year, and by the looks of the new schedule and the fact we seem to be the only UK base not getting flights from the new Berlin base, there isnt anything exciting with them. And then with bmibaby, they seem to be constantly starting a route, dropping it, then bringing it back with a much reduced frequency, and then keeping it like that or dropping it again. The base has been dropped from 9 aircraft in Winter 2002/2003 to just four I believe for 2003/2004.

Routes I'd like to see are: Charleroi, Hahn, Skavsta, Girona, Dublin, Beauvais, Jerez, Treviso and Ciampino.

Stick Bergamo on that list and I'd agree with you

WATCH THIS SPACE

I'm predicting a bloody fight!

Earlier this week The Times reported this:-

MyTravelLite, the low-cost airline run by Tui rival MyTravel, will scale back its operations in the next six months. Peter McHugh, MyTravel chief executive, said the company realised it could not compete with Easyjet and Ryanair. The number of MyTravelLite aircraft would be cut from six to four.

“We are not abandoning the brand, but we will use it as a flight-only holiday product rather than as a stand-alone scheduled airline,” said McHugh.

FR and EZY don't like people playing on their turf. And FR are very successful predators!

Not long ago did they introduce direct competition services with MYT from BHX to Murcia and Barcelona (Girona). FR smelt blood and they have pulled MYTLite to their knees!

They are not going to like or let TOM quietly grow a significant opertation at CVT.

If it turns out to be true that FR move into the EMA scene then they can eliminate TOM too.

IMHO

FR WILL move into EMA

FR WILL see off TOM

ANd what about WW?? They'd better watch it! Other threads have stated that Tiny is limited to 13 units by the bmi board! Hardly in a position to launch a counter attack!

FR could either see off baby......or ...Do a "Buzz" and snatch the baby from bmi mummy - MOL could buy it out of his pocket change!

"Seconds out, round two!"
