I would very grateful if fellow Ppruner’s could help with information about Durban and KZN South Coast based e.g.: Port Shepstone/ Margate area Flying Schools with Piper PA28's.

I need to complete around 15- 17 flying hours and 3 Exams (Nav, Met, Airframes) to complete my PPL and therefore looking for a recommended good quality flying school in the above areas.

Please post your recommendations with contact details and any other helpful information on the thread or send me a private message. All help and information given is much appreciated. I know only too well the pitfalls of making the wrong selection.

Hi Sandy

A friend has a flying school just inland (1hour drive) of Durban at Pietermaritzburg called Avstar. They have a Pa28-140 and a Pa28-180. If you are looking for a professional approach then this is the place. His name is Wade Tanner and his number is +27-33-3864745, email [email protected] and website www.avstar.co.za

Hope this helps!

hi

as far as i know, although there is an airfield at margate, there is no training school there.

i did my ppl training with virginia flight school www.vfs.co.za +27 31 5632080, based at virginia airport just north of durban (about an hours drive from port shepstone). their fleet was mainly cessna's, but i think now they also have a PA28.

good luck

Hi

Is this a JAR PPL or a SA PPL that you need to complete?

Just for the record you can fly UK registered aircraft on a valid SA PPL. IMHO a JAR PPL is only worth doing if you intend getting an IMC rating or flying aircraft registered in other JAA states.

Just a bit further down the coast, tho, is 43 Air School - in Port Alfred...

Accomodation on site, or close by - all their own facilities - AND, maybe more important to you, they have their own fleet of PA28's.

Phone: (+27 0-46) 624-2433 email: [email protected]

Hope it helps...

Got back on Monday from Durban.

Did my Italian PPL validation with Virgina Flight School in Durban and then flew for ten hours with one of their C172s.

Very good, helpful and professional.

I also believe they have PA28s.

Sorry, mate. Got the wrong idea due to no upper case in the name of school. Haven't heard of them but why Durbs area in particular?
