Been sweatin' it out down the gym for the past 13 weeks, getting fit and losing wieght. T'other day CFI told me they consider you overweight at 13 stone (he's about the same height as me). I'm 5 8'5 and 13st 7, is this OK for the BMI?

Or was he yanking my chain?

Laters dudes

If my calculations are right your BMI is around 29 which makes your instructors assessment correct.

VFR800,

There are alot fatter pilots out there that hold class one medicals.:E
13.8 stone is big but I think you will pass (not a train smash). Maybe just lay off the doughnuts and Macdonalds abit and work hard at the gym more often than just lately!!! :p

BMI of 35+ is a fail

Strafer,

I am not aware that any BMI is an automatic fail. I have looked at the website in the past but could not find it.

Can you point me in the direction.

FAA has no BMI automatic fail AFAIK.

FD,

It was what my AME told me at my last renewal. He'd forgotton the formula for calculating BMI but said. 'I do know that 35 and over and you'd be in trouble'. Which to be fair isn't the same as an automatic fail, so I'll back track now. :=

Fortunately my svelte and athletic frame (only partially covered by a beer gut) got me through.
