Comanche Helicopter Working Towards UAV Teaming

Sikorsky and Boeing’s second prototype Comanche armed reconnaissance helicopter has performed very well during flight tests held in Florida this week, according to the US Army.
Long-term plans call for systems that would allow a Comanche crew to remotely control an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for selecting targets over the horizon.
Bill Beletsky, Boeing project manager, said that such UAVs would need highly advanced programming to operate without overburdening a crew already flying the helicopter.
‘It’ll be several years before we see that kind of work being done,’ Beletsky said.
Comanche is expected to enter service with the US Army in 2009.
