I too understand your frustration. I have been trying for two years to get into Virgin Blue, have over 10 years experience in the aviation industry, have airline crewing experience and contacts within the company.

I responded to their rostering and crewing advertisements but both time received the thanks but no thanks letter. Not even an interview.

I really don't know what they are after but it seems aviation experience is not it. I heard that some people offered the crewing job had no aviation experience. Don't know if that is true or not but it is really frustrating. It seems that they recruit quite heavily from within ie Ground staff moving into rostering etc.

So if you can get a foot in the door in another position, work your way to rostering or crewing .

Good luck with your endeavours and let me know if you get in and v.v.!!

From what I recall, there is only one "experienced" Ops Crewing person at DJ...probably changed now.

That "person" used to tell me how everybody "went to water" if there was a delay & the schedule went awry! However, I think the strategy is to get inexperienced staff & train them up. That means DJ avoid "inheriting" any baggage that staff have accumulated at other airlines.

Perhaps, you should drop any reference to industry experience & say you were a "bubbly bartender" or something!

Alternatively, wait for Hop/Jump to start up in May.;)

Likewise, I've sent off several applications since the initial announcement of their being set up in 1999, and never received any more than the automatic e-mail acknowledgement of my application.

Good to hear some replies! Was a tad quiet there for a while.......

Short & Sweet are you in the industry now? I certainly share your frustration!

Starting to think about dusting off the UK passport and heading over to try my chances there.
Have a good friend in the Engineering side that refers to a majority of the staff in these specialised positions as ex burger flippers............

Perhaps we should group up and wait to catch sir Richard and present our plea :)

Someone in power at VB help all of us....................

No I am not in the industry now. Work in an Accountants office at the moment (not really as exciting as aviation) but am still trying to get back into aviation.

I even heard that VB do not employ ex-Ansett pilots or relatives of ex-Ansett pilots, so I don't know if that filters down to crewing/ops. I am not ex-Ansett but if anyone else is and they haven't got a guernsey that could be why. However I would love to be proven wrong and find out that there is no discrimination anymore.

I am an ex-pilot however and I think that may be what goes against me sometimes. They think I am trying to get in and work my way up the front. That is the last thing I want to do, but if you can't get an interview how can you tell them that!!

Oh well back to Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss Accounts :(

See ya
