Bank Runners around Sydney

Can anyone one give me the names of any Bank run companies around Sydney. Dont mind heading out around NSW. I'm looking for 350hrs pic as quickly as possible. Any info, people to talk to or tips will help. Thanks in advance.:ok:

Ive got about 850hrs. 120pic. Endorsed on PA34 and BE76.

Just going off my past experience, with your time I think you'll be struggling to get a bankrun without some seriously good contacts, could be wrong though?

From my very limited bankrunning time, I found it could be a very demanding, high pressure operation. Personally, I'd try to get a charter job someplace (read: not in Sydney) and build some twin time (310 and PA-31 would be nice) before jumping into bankrunning.

Can I ask a silly question? As a non-Aust, is "bank running" early morning / late night charter in something like a Navajo, or is it something else as well?

Yes, they are early morning departures/early evening arrivals. Typically the flight terminates in some town somewhere after multiple sectors dropping off the freight, the pilot spends the day in company rented rest accommodation (motel, house, flat) then does the reverse in the late afternoon, collecting freight along the way.

They're freight runs that carry time critical stuff for banks & other customers. Banks want to get cheques etc in from the outlying towns to the major cities ASAP (so they can debit the accounts to get their hands on the money). Other stuff includes medical samples, the overnight freight market and the like. The distances make road shipment too slow. It's coordinated by the large freight firms who then contract out to the charter companies.

The runs fan out from the general aviation airports in the capitals & also from major regional centres where they may link with larger aircraft from the cities.

The a/c used range from C210s in the more remote & sparse areas, Aerostars/Chieftans/Barons/C310s from places like Bankstown to various towns and Metros/MUs from Bankstown to major regional centres. There's usually a series of sectors for each a/c.

It is high pressure. Lots of pressure to get to the places, expedite the arrivals & departures, not to be late, old a/c with minimal equipment, single pilot etc etc. There can be a high turnover of charter companies if the freight companies aren't happy with their performance eg delays.

Do you need PIC time or any? twin or single? What is the rest of your time on, you can't surely have 600 hrs ICUS or co-pilot on a PA34 or BE76!?

I'm just looking for pic time. M/E would be great, but due to my lack of command time, S/E time would be just as good. The rest of my time is on turboprops but i've got buckleys chance of getting a command on that type of a/c. Does anyone know of any charter companies looking for pilots??

I don't believe that you are having a lend (even though it does look a bit like that), but it is a tough market out there. All I can suggest is that you get on the blower and start making some phone calls and then doing some leg work.

If you treat the job hunt like a job you may just get lucky sooner rather that later.

As to specifics apart from "Go West (or North) young man..." you may as well be asking the meaning of life...

Basically, with that sort of experience I think you would be wasting your time even approaching bank runners around SY. The quickest way to do it (as you probably already know) is to go up to somewhere like kununurra and join a busy company up there, where you have a good chance of doing about 100 hrs per month. There was an ad for one in last weeks ozjobs.

Willie, I certainly enjoy a good read and that was indeed one of the finer things that went from page to celluloid rather well IMHO. Me=Good? Nah, just been around a bit too long in some people's opinions..... hehehehe. :}
