Have decided to move up north where its a bit warmer than NSW. Can any one pass on there experiences and the lifestyle that I could expect at Kannanara WA (Think that is how it is spelt). Appart from the flying I hear the fishing and diving are pretty good too not to mention all those swedish back packers.

I believe it is actually Kunnunurra, but I'm not too sure about the number or placement of n's in that.

Yep, it'll certainly be a LOT warmer. Maximum's already in the high 30s and it won't get any cooler for a while yet.

Good idea to get yourself known in the 'wet season', but be prepared for a massive influx of other hopefuls early next year. There may even be some still up there that are going to sit it out through the wet.

I'm afraid I can't actually offer any accurate insight into your query, as I've never had the pleasure of living there, but I've spent some months in Broome. All I can say is don't forget your wallet. I'm sure the same would apply to Kunners, somehow.

It's a long way from home... good luck! :ok:

Not sure about the diving, but the fishing is good. Life as a pilot is exciting enough without diving with crocs. :O

The scenery and flying in the Kimberley is some of the best you will see and do in oz. If it's your first time up north, it's also likely to be your first experience of living and socialising in close quarters with our indigenous brothers and sisters, but generally you'll have no problems with them.

Continental is right in saying that it's not the cheapest place to live, like most of northern WA, so unless you have heaps of money in the bank, or your parents are helping you out, you're going to need to find a job to bank roll the huge amounts of money you will spend on alcohol!

As for the girls, well i lived in a small town south of Kunnunurra, and all I can say is that the competition was fierce for the few girls that came in, and sadly I don't remember too many of the Swedish variety!

All in all, if you're an outgoing type who enjoys a beer or ten then you'll have some of the best times of your life.

Good luck! :ok:

solo... I think you've been paying too much attention to the posts by stallie! :D His experiences are HIS experiences and I think it's fair to say that he's one of a kind! Ya might get lucky with a backpacker or two, but don't go there expecting to find the place swarming with 'em!

Paging stallie...! :D

Someone please contact Lonely planet and have them put out a guide to the Top End for randy pilots.

the diveing around Kunas is great........ no sharks, the crocs ate em all, and the waters a tad murky, but that works too, you cant see the crocs so you won't be scared. :} only wild life I saw around there that was worth watching was working at the country club. :} . If your a pilot you will certainly get to meet lots of local people.......... whilst asking them for a job picking melons, digging holes, filling holes, pulling beers. most of the people at the back packers are out of work pilots........ and on the whole, blokes. they stay there coz unless you have a very rich uncle/mom/dad or a very understanding bank manager, thats about all you can afford for more than three days.
great place though. ;)
