If the winds are easterly and Manchester are using 06 right, will they switch to 06 left for the landing at 10:45am or stick with 06 right?????

Considering the occasion - my money is on 06L ;)

But I've been wring before.

Many many times.

Well, she looked great as she departed Heathrow. Admittedly I was standing only a few meters from the runway's edge when she rotated, although all of us were overshadowed by the TV star. We all expected him to start saying things like: "Request your routeing after WOBUN" and "Report your position and flight level"

A little bird told me it would be R1 so at 10.45 I was ankle deep in a field near Mobberley with wife and kids in tow. We weren't disappointed as 'AC roared overhead - an unforgettable experience........

Was with the TV star (and Adrian) by 27R and got some (shaky) video of the take off. Will repost when uploaded to the X Watch website. Look out for deleted piccies returning to aforementioned site also!
GBOAC - RIP:(

I was listening to the RT and just wondered. What was the 'seagull' vehicle which lead Alpha Charlie onto the runway in aid of?

Thanks

It was a great sight today as 'AC touched down for her last time, but also a sad one when you think that that'll be the last time she ever takes to the skies and, when the engines were off, the last time she moved under her own power.

I don't think I've ever seen an airport come to as much of a standstill as EGCC did today.

I only hope that the crews of the 2x74's and the other aircraft that were down at A1 waiting to depart from 06L weren't too annoyed by the delay caused by an elaborate but worthy backtracking display by 'AC upon landing.

It was a nice to see and hear her for that one last time.

By the way, the "Seagull" vehicle was acting as a "follow me" vehicle for 'AC during the whole backtracking procedure. You wouldn't want the aircraft to get lost in full gaze of the World's media and whilst so many aircraft were waiting down at the 06L threshold end to depart.

All in all a thouroughly memorable occasion - if anyone has any photos of the day I'd be pleased to see 'em if they're about on the WWW anywhere.

P.S. For those interested 'AC will sit on Taxiway Bravo - abeam the Aircraft Viewing Park - all weekend until it's towed away for component recovery behind closed doors.

Hey SurfingATCO

Nice video, how's the sound?

Bet we looked like a bunch of amatuers lacking the day-glo!

Wasn't as noisy as I was expecting, though.

After listening to the RT prior to Concordes arrival, I got the impression most pilots in aircraft due to depart were happy to sit there and wait for her, a Ryanair 737 even repositioned diagonally across the taxiway to give his passengers a view. I must admit when the engines fell silent for the last time I felt a lump in my throat and a shiver down my spine.(and a ringing in my ears) noisy ! or what.

JUdging by the number of cameras airside and landside, I dont think there will be any shortage of photos. Drop me your e mail and I will arrange getting a copy CD of my photos to you, missed the water display though.

Cheers MAN777 - I'll drop you a mail ;)

The KLM 737 was overjoyed at being held for 'AC and said so over the R/T.

I wonder which other aircraft will ever have the same power over professionals and enthusiasts alike?

I was a passenger on the BA 737 that was third in line at A1 last Friday.... There were no complaints on our aircraft.
The captain gave a PA telling us it was on it's way (if you were that captain and a Ppruner, then thanks, nice one!! :)), and all the cabin crew were scrambling to get a view out of the windows too!! A second 'cabin secure' check was required!!!

Nice one BA keeping it in the country, and God's own part of the country at that!!!

:ok:
