Hello,

Just read about this new Nigerian-owned airline that is based in Freetown (Sierra Leonne) and will start flying next week with an Airbus A330-300 from New York (JFK) to Lagos thrice weekly, stopping once weekly in Banjul (Gambia) and twice weekly in Freetown (Sierra Leonne).

Inaugural party in New York:

Inaugural flight is October 30! Flights already in CRS.

Any person knows where the A330 was sourced from? Apparently the flights are operated by them (as opposed to Rite Time which already offers flights between the US and Nigeria but contracts World Airways to operate them).

Thanks,

Err the party in New York was in April 2003...? Isn't that a bit of a long time before the first flight 30 Oct???

Found this on the ARC Website:

Arlington, VA, October 6, 2003 - Trans Atlantic Airlines, 448/KC, will join ARC as a participating carrier, effective with sales of October 13, 2003, giving ARC's more than 26,000 travel agency and corporate travel department locations the ability to settle Trans Atlantic Airlines transactions through ARC's trusted reporting system.

Based in Sierra Leone, Trans Atlantic Airlines will launch its maiden flight on October 30, 2003. Trans Atlantic Airlines will operate service between New York (JFK) and Freetown, Sierra Leone and Banjul, The Gambia, with continuing flights to Lagos, Nigeria.

Trans Atlantic Airlines joins ARC under the ARC Associate Carrier Program, a cost-effective settlement solution for small to mid-sized carriers distributing inventory in the U.S. market. With ARC settlement, carriers benefit from direct, weekly settlement of U.S. sales, rather than waiting for interline payments. The ARC Associate Carrier Program is designed for carriers settling fewer than 1,000 transactions per month through ARC.

Trans Atlantic Airlines has elected the General Concurrence method of agent appointment whereby all ARC agents are automatically appointed as agents of Trans Atlantic Airlines unless specifically advised to the contrary by the carrier. At this time, Trans Atlantic Airlines accepts cash as the only form of payment.

For inquiries, reservations, or sales information, contact the following:

The interesting thing is that afrinat international airlines, which I believe had been offering flights on the routes out of the USA to Banjul, Freetown, Lagos etc and using a European Aviation B747 (?) has just been kicked out of ARC. Are the two events linked perhaps?

From ARC Webiste:

ARC SUSPENDS AGREEMENT WITH AFRINAT INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES

Arlington, VA, August 5, 2003 - ARC is suspending its Agreement with Afrinat International Airlines, 836/Q9, following completion of processing of sales period ending (PED) 08/03/03 (suspended effective PED 08/10/03). Q9 validated transactions submitted with agents' August 10, 2003 PED sales reports will be returned to the agents unprocessed and should be sent directly to the attention of Afrinat International Airlines at the following address:
