Hello all

I have a Portuguese class 1 medical issued by the Portuguese CAA (INAC). I was wondering if this is valid in the UK as I am studying for my ATPL's at the moment and was thinking about getting a class 1 done at LGW, but wasnt sure if I would need to start from scratch or just do a renewal. My Portuguese one ran out in July.

Any help would be great!

Hi, don't know the answer myself but the UK CAA will - they're usually very helpful, here's the number:

hello ,

I was in a similar situation sometimes ago. I had a class 1 issued in another JAA member state. I went to LGW , and I had to take what they call an "extended renewal" , call them for requirements, ( initial or renewal considered , don't remember exactly) ./
what is sure tough , it s that u don't have to make the full initial , it is somewhere in the middle !
good luck

Do you still need to undertake an "extended renewal" even if your non-UK medical is issued in accordance to JAR-FCL3?

hey martin,

yes I had a non uk JAR FCL 3 class 1 medical , they ask me to take an extended renewal .
That could be different now but it was still the case at least one year ago .
best thing is to call them .
good luck
