IT’S A CRAIC-ER – BELFAST LAUNCH FOR JET2.COM
15 October 2003

Region’s low cost airline launches flights from Leeds Bradford to Northern Ireland for £1*

The North’s low cost airline, Jet2.com, has announced the launch of truly low cost travel to Belfast International Airport – the direct, twice-daily service takes off on November 17th 2003 and tickets are now on sale with special one-way fares in both directions of just £1, excluding taxes, for the rest of the month.

Following the end of the promotion the airline aims to offer more than 50 per cent of one-way seats at £19 or less, plus taxes, making it a truly low cost destination. The move comes less than a year after the airline launched from Leeds Bradford International Airport.

Belfast is fast-becoming one of the most popular weekend break cities in the UK and, for many, is the ‘new’ Dublin. Its compact city centre has been revitalised by modern developments, warehouse refurbishments and a raft of trendy new bars, cafes, restaurants and clubs.

Its popularity among stag and hen parties is boosted with the likes of the Belfast Music Festival, its four-day St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Summer Fest, the fringe Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival and the three-week Belfast Festival at Queen’s which, after Edinburgh’s, is the second-largest arts festival in the UK.

What’s more, the city is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful surrounding villages and countryside of Northern Ireland.

Philip Meeson, chief executive of Jet2.com, said:
“The people of the North have responded unbelievably to low cost travel from the region and we have grown at a phenomenal rate – today I am delighted to announce Belfast International Airport as our new destination.

“Since we launched we have already carried more than 300,000 people to destinations across Europe and we will be adding to this with our new service into Northern Ireland.

“We know that there is a huge demand for a route into the region, ranging from those who do business there, people who have friends and relatives in the region, to the growing city break market.

“Fares during November will start from an incredible £1 for travel to and from Belfast and while this is a promotional offer, standard seats on our flights will genuinely be low cost.”

The Belfast to Leeds Bradford service launches on November 17th 2003, with two flights a day departing Leeds at 07.15 and 18.30. It will run twice-daily Monday to Friday, with single flights on Saturdays and Sundays.
