Anybody know exactly how import duty is calculated for aircraft into South Africa?? Planning on sendind a hot air balloon down there shortly.

Its not necessary, the Government of South Africa already has plenty of Hot Air......

I do know that there is meant to be a free trade agreement with the EU and as such this should mean that there is no import duty. If the balloon is being purchased by an individual in SA then VAT would be applicable at 14% of the price.

If it is your personal possessions that you are bringing i.e. you own a balloon and you're emigrating to SA then in theory I don't think that you should have to pay anything.
