Heard the other day that a number of Iraqi aircraft that were thought to have bugged out to Iran in '91, have been found, in good condition, buried on Iraqi airfields. Any truth in this?

Mighty Gem.......absolutely true, but there was no pre-burial preservation done, hence, a hell of a lot of work and money needed to restore to flying condition.

They must be worth a few quid, spoils of war and all that,I seem to recal the cousins went to a great deal of trouble once to lay their hands on a Foxbat.
Rumour has it on another website that the Ozzies have plundered some good kit.

The disparity between the number of aircraft confirmed as arriving in Iran in 1991 and the numbers claimed as having gone there by Iraq was tiny, and was accounted for by allied kills and accidents. MiG-25s were not claimed as having fled, or as having arrived. These buried aircraft must, therefore, have been hidden much more recently.

BEagle, 'cos the server came up with a message to say that my reply had to be at least 15 characters.

Bolt them all back together and put them out as gate guardians so we have something to blow up next time round - I don't think there are any old MiGs or Hunters left now!
