Aer Lingus has announced nine new routes for commencement in March and May 2004:
March: Berlin, Venice, Bilbao, Valencia, Lyon, Zurich
May: CPH, Dubrovnik, Warsaw.
CPH and ZRH are both former EI routes, but the expansion is still the largest single expansion since the immediate post war years.
No news yet on t/a or other long haul fleets. The chances of new t/a routes will depend on agreement being reached before Christmas, but that also depends on EU/US bilateral talks progressing. There are also concerns that the Irish govt may drag its heels about agreeing a bilateral. EI (ostensibly) cancelled CPT because of its hope of gaining new long haul routes, so it would be "egg on face" if nothing happened. One rumour has EI operating SFO and AA operating MIA, but that is also dependant on a chance in regulations, as AA certainly won't do Shannon.
Another rumour suggests that EI is close to reaching agreement with Singapore authorities over a route there? Any firmer info?
