Can anyone please tell us what the procedure would be to get a helicopter licence?
Hours required and all that sort of thing.
I have a fixed wing JAR FATPL, 1200 hrs TT.
What is the job market like, and is it hard to get into Heli flying.
Appreciate all points of view.

Donald:

You don't say where you're from. I'm assuming UK.

First off, check LASORS 2003 (http://www.caa.co.uk/srg/licensing/fcl/document.asp?groupid=292) for licensing queries.

As for getting a job, I can't help there cos I'm not busting a gut to drop everything just to fly helis. IT pays too well !

Dont know why you have two identical threads running at the same time.

How easy to convert? - Dont know, I've never flown a plank, but sift through some previous threads - there will be some advise there.

Jobs? - Job markets seems to be up and down like a whores drawers. Just have to strike it lucky or be very patient.

How easy to get into? - Take a trial lesson. It is that easy. Finding the cash for the rest of it is the hard part.

You might get a discount of up to 6 hours on the 45 hour requirment for a ppl. Dont know for a CPL. But getting a licence is not a race - it takes as long as you need.
